I just picked up John Williams' 'Earthquake' on the 'bay for just under £6. Other than a "cut out" on the cover, the LP itself is completely mint. Likely brand new unsold (back when it was released) stock. Sounds fantastic - lovely pure analogue recording from start to finish. Nice pressing too, very well mastered. I've never heard this score before, enjoying it immensely!
What are you spinning? This thread demands pictures!
I'm not spinning it (just keeping it as a collectible), but I received "Star Wars: The Ultimate Vinyl Collection" --- which is a box set of the first 6 SW scores on 180 gram vinyl --- for Christmas from a relative. So, recently I also bought "The Force Awakens" on vinyl as sort of a companion piece to go along with it. Maybe one of these days, I'll get a decent turntable and actually play them. I don't trust my crappy old Radio Shack turntable that's been sitting in the garage for 25 years collecting dust.
BTW, John-73 - that's a cool looking LP and turntable!
nice find, I've been on the hunt for a copy of Earthquake for a while now.
I'm going through a little Jarre phase, inspired by my recent acquistion of Tadlow's awesome Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, this is a copy of The Year of Living Dangerously that I've had since the late eighties, bought in France iirc.

Nice Garrard 301 (?) turntable -- what cartridge/tonearm combo are you using? I simply have to reconfigure my shelving so that I can use my Thorens again. I overloaded with video components over the past year -- and had to push aside the Thorens to make room.

It is indeed - was quite an involved restoration project, but well worth it in the end. It's an SME 309 magnesium tonearm & Audio-Technica AT-440Mlb. I wanted something that was 'end game' for myself, but with a sweet spot between performance and price. I know many spend £1000s on cartridges alone, but I'm very happy with how it all turned out.

Nice system! Is that a Project deck?
Noticed a few copies of Earthquake on there at the moment, seems to be an easy title to purchase. I can highly recommend Dracula too. I managed to score a sealed copy last year for less than £15.
Beyond Thunderdome - I need to hear this score, and watch the film!

Thanks That collection is very well done and a few of the scores sound better than the CDs. Phantom Menace in particular. The original trilogy LPs aren't quite as good sounding as the original releases (they used some NR here & there) but its a lovely looking set to own. Of course now after only a few months of those being out they've released gold vinyl coloured versions of them now. Ker-ching ker-ching! Gotta keep that money coming in!
If you ever want advice on a budget deck please ask. The very cheap plasticky decks will only give a very light-weight scratchy sound, but bargains are out there.

it is a Project, well spotted. Dracula's another one I'm scouting for, but because postage for lp's is kinda pricey to where i live (and shipping from the states is pretty much out of the question since the rates went up), i usually only buy stuff off discogs if there's at least three records i want from the same vendor, which sees me holding off a lot of the time, but they'll be got eventually.

They're superb value for money - looks like a Marantz amp & CD player too. Cool!
It can sometimes help to use the Price Camel website to set up a search for vinyl, from private sellers on Amazon. Widens the net a little more. I tend to just buy older soundtracks really rather than modern ones, unless I know for sure they've been mastered and cut from analogue or high-res sources. Too many modern releases are lazily just sourced from the 16-bit CD masters (or even the CDs!).

yeah the only brand new score lps I've bought are the E.T. reissue from Geffen, and the Mirumir Solaris, which was a 2013 composer approved remaster. I am interested in the Mondo Scanners album though, Phantasm too, not sure what their mastering policies are, but it's hard to justify the price when older stuff costs so little. NP:
I visited my local FYE store in Arundel Mills mall in Maryland. I ran across this double LP of Silvestri's Predator. Regular price $59.99. On sale for $49.99. Yikes! Cool cover, though.
Awful cover on that Predator. I understand not being able to use Arnold's image on the cover, but Jesus....even the title alone would be better. Everything about that cover, fonts and all, screams BOOTLEG (even though it's not, I know).
