The big problem with this thread is that actually only "Pipeline", Miserlou"; "Stoked and the Surfing LP of the Ventures are considered surfing songs. Besides all the Dick Dale and Ventures stuff I like most of all The Marketts "Sun Power" and "Sunshine Girl". both as a single and their World Pacific LP that's really terrific.

The big problem with this thread is that actually only "Pipeline", Miserlou"; "Stoked and the Surfing LP of the Ventures are considered surfing songs. "Big problem" Made me chuckle. God I love this effing place, as it's always so God-damned serious, like Benny Herrmann or something. The reason for the expanded list was to incur more replies--I even briefly added the title of that shitty 1977 George Lucas fantasy film to inspire the FSM legions to post, but let's face it: Northern Europeans ain't exactly surf instrumental afficionados, and if they are, they ain't talkin'... Me, I love surf instrumentals (and instrumental pop in general), it evokes my romantized image of what my part of the country (South Florida) looked and sounded like circa 1958-1963 give or take a year either way. Florida isn't exactly a surf mecca--though some try when the hurricanes are near and Sebastian Inlet is close to being one--I just love the sound of this stuff, unless it gets too cute or silly.
