This adaptation of the 60's tv program retained virtually nothing from that show. But that's not why it's a ripoff (lotsa tv-to-movie adaptions seem to take nothing from the source when transferring to the big screen). No, what makes Ritchie a thief is IT TAKES A THIEF. This film had the audacity to take the Alexander Mundy character from that show and transfer him whole into the character of Napoleon SOlo.!!!! UNCLE's Solo is a famous jewel thief who is caught and then blackmailed into working for the CIA. If he refuses he will go back to prison. Sound familiar? Commercial artists STRIVE to rip off whatever they can, just as car-fuckers make as much noise as possible WITH their muffler, assuming they have one. Needless to say, the UNCLE flick was pretty stupid and didnt reference anything correctly, including the soundtrack ripoffs. The way the climax was staged--writing, editing, acting--was rather impressive.
