Thru the 90's on we got "trailer music" from groups like Two Steps From Hell". I actually thought the music was pretty cool in the beginning, but the sameness quickly sank in.
I think the one that started this current trend was the track by E.S. Posthumus, right? I enjoyed that quite a bit and found it really effective.
But then, everything else that followed in that mode...was in that mode, with little variety.
A few years back I bought one of the Two Steps albums from Amazon, and yeah it can be AWESOME, but track after track sounding like the Second Coming or the End Of Mankind...it gets boring fast.
My favorite collection of trailer music remains The John Beal Trailer Project.
I'm not a big fan of songs in trailers, especially the new Star Trek trailer. I don't care for "The House of the Rising Sun" in the new Magnificent Seven trailer. (Would have loved to have heard Bernstein's main theme in the trailer for recall, but that won't happen.)
However, yesterday I was watching the new trailer for The Birth Of A Nation, and towards the end of the trailer, Andra Day's "We'll Rise Up" played and was quite effective. The lyrics certainly dovetailed well with the visuals. (Day sounds very similar to Adele.)
