His Moog Power album is brilliant, and his first RCA album of Man from UNCLE music - the one with the red background - is the single best UNCLE album ever.

And don't forget Lady in Cement!

Oh yeah! Love that shark/danger motif which he uses for both the shark as well as the retired mobster character, Al Mungar(?)

Plus the chase cue through Miami-at-the-tail-end-of-its-Lounge-Era-heyday is simply GLORIOUS.

Although not a film music album, his RCA album "Candy's Theme" (1965) has some great writing. His inspiration came from female characters in literature. RCA Spain released it some years ago but it is now available from Dutton Vocalion.

And don't forget his work for "I Dream Of Jeannie" (beginning with the second season).

I've been looking forward to seeing The Undefeated again sometime to see how the score rides with the visuals. It's my favorite from Kritzerland's John Wayne At Fox - The Westerns. The theme at the start of the score gradually builds to a nicely paced piece of americana. It has one of the most amusing original poster leads ever: Wayne + Hudson = Dynamite! But this and the UNCLE interpolated album mentioned above constitute my only Montenegro.

The Undefeated is imo more interesting at the start, before Wayne's Union commander, Hudson's Confederacy officer, and their respective rabbles meet out west. There are some effective scenes for both Wayne and Hudson as they deal with the end of the U.S. Civil War. After that, it's less interesting, though Montenegro's score gets more of a workout in the film's second half so it may be more interesting in that respect.

In that case, Grecchus, you really oughtta get hold of HURRY SUNDOWN at the earliest possible moment. I do not think you will be disappointed...

I was always very fond of his score for "Viva Max" with Peter Ustinov.

Another score forum I post at actually has statistics on various things, and one of them is the top thread killers. #1 is cinemediapromo, but I woudln't necessarily count that since the PR guy or gal just starts useless of redundant threads nobody really uses, so the real honor goes to Demetris. That would be a funny stat to have here.

I was first aware of his name with the GBU single, a worldwide hit.
Dont bring up his name in an interview with Ennio though - doesnt go down well!

I also happen to think that Montenegro's underscore for, get ready for it, "The Partridge Family" was superb!

No, I don't mean Danny's most un-Jaco Pastorius-like bass playing or the smallest kid's not-to-be-confused-with-Elvin Jones drum technique, either. I mean the funky underscore that the characters didn't hear. It's ridiculously good music.

Indeed. Not because Hugo did a very popular set of cover versions of his music. But amazingly (throughout the world) it went so far as when Montenegro died they attributed the composition of Morricone's music to him in obituaries. But that was long ago and I think Ennio is not as pissed as he was.

Here Dominic Frontiere should have been pissed too.

These kinds of errors are common. I've told this story here before, but the first report I heard of Jerry Goldsmith's death was on the 8 AM CBS Radio News broadcast. The music of his that they played in the report? The themes from the television shows "Perry Mason" and "The Twilight Zone."
