La-La Land Records, 20th Century Fox and Fox Music proudly present the world premiere release of orchestral score from the legendary animated FOX television series FAMILY GUY. Composers Walter Murphy (TED 2, TED, AMERICAN DAD!) and Ron Jones (AMERICAN DAD!, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, DUCK TALES) have fashioned some of the most exciting and complex orchestral music ever composed and recorded for television. Swing, Jazz, Broadway, Big Band and Film Score genres collide in expressive, colorful bursts that have become a hallmark of this long-running and classic comedy series.

Show creator and performer Seth MacFarlane explains, “Both Ron and Walter played the show as if it were a completely sincere ‘Leave It to Beaver’ or ‘Donna Reed-style’ wholesome comedy. And it just worked really well… (The music) was always the most fun part of the process for me.”

“Seth is really a collaborator,” says composer Walter Murphy. “Most producers and directors really are not that musically astute. Seth is completely up on everything, and reads and writes music himself… We like the same kind of music in film scores.”

“It is always the greatest pleasure and honor to create scores for Seth, Fox and the huge world audience that enjoys ‘Family Guy!’” remarks composer Ron Jones, who hopes fans will find new appreciation for the music on this release. “I think it will be like a fun scavenger hunt. It’s loaded with motifs and little licks and things that are connected.”

Produced by Dan Goldwasser, Walter Murphy and Ron Jones, and mastered by James Nelson, this special, limited edition release showcases suites of some of the finest Family Guy score cues from seasons 1-4, including such long-sought after tracks as the Chicken Fight music from “Da Boom” and the Sperm Wars cue from “Emission Impossible,” among many, many others. Exclusive, in-depth liner notes by writer John Takis include new interview comments from the composers and Seth MacFarlane, and the joyful art design by Jim Titus boasts a front cover with original art by one of the show’s animators - commissioned especially for this CD release! This is a limited edition release of 5000 units – and a must for FAMILY GUY fans and any film/TV music enthusiast!

CRACK IN THE WORLD / PHASE IV: LIMITED EDITION LLLCD 1392
Music by John Douglas and Brian Gascoigne
Limited Edition of 1000 Units
RETAIL PRICE: $19.98

La-La Land Records, Paramount Pictures and Paramount Music present the original motion picture scores to both the 1965 sci-fi dramatic adventure CRACK IN THE WORLD, starring Dana Andrews and Janette Scott, and directed by Andrew Marton, and the 1974 sci-fi, insect cult shocker PHASE IV, starring Nigel Davenport and Michael Murphy, and directed by Saul Bass. Both scores make their premiere CD debuts here, with CRACK IN THE WORLD’S composer John Douglas (TV’s TRANSFORMERS, G.I. JOE) fashioning a traditionally rousing and richly dramatic orchestral ride, while Brian Gascoigne’s (THE EMERALD FOREST) PHASE IV heads in another, but no less compelling direction, with pioneering electronic and acoustic sonics creating a soundscape for the striking imagery in renowned graphic artist Saul Bass’ experimental directorial debut. Produced by Dan Goldwasser, digitally transferred by Johnny Dee Davis, and mastered by Doug Schwartz, this special, limited edition release of 1000 units features exclusive, in-depth liner notes by writer Jeff Bond and cracking art design by Goldwasser.

NOTE: CRACK IN THE WORLD was sourced from 35mm, 3-track mono DME stems, and as a result, some dialogue bleed-through can be detected. The acclaimed PHASE IV program presented on the recent Waxwork Records LP release was recreated for this CD by Doug Schwartz, from Waxwork’s unmarked, unslated source files.

Remember, if you don't buy this: "Damn you all!"

This is fantastic. And it's jammed full of music memories. The first sample alone was one of the first pieces I took note of and wanted when I originally started watching the series.

Jones and Murphy have done top-notch work here, for years.

Now, when the show came back from cancellation I tried to watch it, but it just wasn't the same and it was like it was trying to offend me and I quite watching, so I have no idea what kind of wonderful scoring has occured since, except two episodes: I think it was Lukas who posted here about the big Christmas episode with Jones big-orchestral score, so I had to check it out. And then I checked out how Brian was killed off; I knew it was a fake-out and he'd be back later, as I posted online at the time, and I was right (I also suggested it would be a Stewie time machine thing, and I was right again).

Jones and Murphy continued their great work by doing the same thing for the spin-off series, "American Dad!", though it was mostly Murphy. Later on Joel McNeely joined and to this day contributes strong efforts as well, including the "Back to the Future" parody episode where as I recall he used the BttF theme a number of times and musical ideas. IMDb also shows somebody named Asa Taccone has scored two episodes -- I can't speak for the compsoer or the episodes (I may have to check them out just to hear his efforts).

The samples are quite short and while they give me an idea that this has a similar sound to the Ted soundtracks, are there unifying themes that show up throughout? Or is each track musically distinct?

Cool! Thank you for the reply... I must have missed that line in the press release. Thanks to LaLaLand for bringing this project to reality. As a longtime Family Guy fan (going all the way back to their post-Super Bowl premiere in 1999) I've always appreciated the effort put into the musical sequences and the score.

I don' t know if Seth McFarlane ever checks out soundtrack message boards like this, but given his many soundbites over the years talking about his appreciation of film music and many composers we all love, it kinda feels like he would fit right in around here. His props to John Williams last week at the AFI special seemed truly heartfelt and genuine.
