Hi All, check out my new interview with ROBERT McDOWELL and ANDY HULL, the alt. rockers of The Manchester Orchestra who now open up one of the truly unique scores in many a deserted island with SWISS ARMY MAN, whose offbeat blades are comprised of vocals and songs that get inside the life-saving friendship between a maddeningly marooned man and his very dead best bud. Read about how the first-time composers created an all-singing score of emotional rescue here
This film was shown as a market screening when I was in Cannes, and I wanted to go see it based on the peculiar premise alone, but it collided with other things. Too bad, because it looked really intriguing. I'll probably get to see in some other venue.
However, I recently got a promo of the score, and I was VERY impressed. Not for everyone, and basically structured around the vocalizations of the two lead actors, but still. Quite beautiful, and a highlight score of the year for me.
