Is there much in terms of score? I thought this was a classic songtrack situation?

The upcoming CD is in fact a score and song compilation.

OK.

This is a nostalgic film for me; I remember renting it on VHS in the late 80s or early 90s (and I'm well aware that it's a cult favourite). But I can't really remember anything of the soundtrack, neither songs nor score. So count me intrigued.

Is that supposed to be any good?

I couldn't make myself watch that for more than 5 minutes...

A lot of the best instrumental tracks are actually needle drops (Dream Academy's cover of "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I want" in the museum scene or The Beat's "March of the Swivelheads" over the final race home) but there has to be around 15 minutes of score in the finished film, not counting what Hughes may have commissioned but thrown out in favor of said needle drops. My favorite bit of score is the moody little piece that plays over Cameron's "I'm dying" phone call.

More on the release from a June 11 post:

We are aiming for Aug release date.

We came across some incredible finds when working on this one -- both score and songs. This is the kind of release that will please score fans, Ferris fans and 80s music fans. Some truly amazing treasures were unearthed.

Plus, we got to work with the immortal Tarquin Gotch on this.

Not that I need it, but I am wondering if it will have the Star Wars Main Title on it?

...and in the pop song arena, will it have The Beatles's cover of "Twist and Shout", featured so prominently in the film's parade scene?

Either way, I'm buying this thing when it comes out! smile

This will appeal to ANYone who grew up in the 80s. Songs, score, it's all 80's meat and potatoes. If you don't get it...it's cool...don't get it. The fact that it took 30 years to make it officially into soundtrack land is an abomination in the film and soundtrack world. LLL...this is epic, on every level. Thank you. I don't believe in isms.....isms are not good...but Lalaisms...are good.

It's a little over eleven minutes of score in the film (I can't recall the precise amount at the moment).

As I recall, Hughes said he thought the song use was too all over the place and wouldn't make a good soundtrack, so he nixed the idea.

Don't you mean “Stars Wars?”

Um, no, it really isn't for you wink

But this is FANTASTIC news. One of the few song soundtracks I'd like to own. Congrats to LaLaLand, this should be a solid seller for them.

Yes! This is going to be a substantial seller for the LLL team. Score plus songs would basically be best for both worlds kind of market. I wish LLL well. Cant wait for this set!

Anyone who doesn't like this movie is dead to me. Dead to me.

I only watched it for Mia Sara. So maybe that only makes me half dead to you.

Well, all the song and score just as heard in hte film, wouldn't not fit on one CD, especially with the new discoveries on both MV mentioned. Scanning through the lists of songs used in the film over at IMDb, these are the songs I think are important and good enough to have -- let's hope it comes to pass:

  • "Beat City"
  • "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" (I hope the instrumental version is included)
  • "March Of The Swivelheads"
  • "Oh Yeah"
  • "Taking The Day Off"
