FB is still clinging on to physical media, so I don't think it matters to him that the music is available in lossless format. Maybe it's a perceived "portability" issue. If I had embraced digital, I would love a setup whereby I had one media centre (i.e. PC with data storage), and speakers in several different rooms in the house, and the ability to control which room's speakers I wanted to transmit that music to via wi-fi. Not sure how do-able that is, and it would also require spending a lot of time ripping all my CDs. And because I've got so many, they would have to be ripped in a lossy format just so it takes up less hard drive space. At the moment, it's just a lot less hassle to simply grab a CD and take it with me to wherever the CD player is, i.e. downstairs with the volume loud enough so I can hear when I'm upstairs. And it's also easier to take that same CD to play in the car. Granted, I could probably copy files to a USB stick and plug that into the car stereo, but that still requires some time and effort in advance to choose what to put on the stick. A random last-minute choice of what music to take with me would be "delayed" by having to go to the PC and finding files to copy. Maybe this should be a discussion for a separate thread, but that's my main reason for just sticking with what I've been used to up until now, and why download-only releases simply don't interest me. So in that respect, the format of the music does influence whether it's something I end up with in my collection, but since I've probably got more music than I can listen to anyway, I'm not really bothered if I'm missing out on something new for that reason. Plus I recently discovered my iTunes no longer worked after a separate Apple software update a few months ago which seems to have automatically installed itself on my PC. I was using iTunes 9, now I've had to upgrade to 12 to fix it. But I wonder how long before they stop even providing a "physical" iTunes program, and all that's available is a website account for you to log into and play your music that's stored in the cloud (like Spotify et al)?
