TUESDAY, MAY 31

DOC SAVAGE---Dwayne Johnson confirmed he will star in the movie based on the 1930s pulp hero. Shane Black (IRON MAN 3) is the director/co-writer. The original 1975 movie starred Ron Ely.

HAN SOLO---Star Wars writer Lawrence Kasdan (THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, RETURN OF THE JEDI, THE FORCE AWAKENS) said the movie about young Han Solo will start filming in January, “...Chris Miller and Phil Lord are going to direct it. They’re great, funny and imaginative and we’ve had a great time together. My son [Jon] and I wrote the script and Chris and Phil are working on it and they’re about to move to London to start shooting in January. And it should be fun.” Alden Ehrenreich will play the young Han.

BATTLE OF MONTE CASSINO---Stanley Kubrick's personal assistant and friend, Emilio D'Alessandro, said Kubrick wanted to make a movie about the infamous World War II Battle of Monte Cassino before his death. In his book, STANLEY KUBRICK: THIRTY YEARS AT HIS SIDE, D'Alessandro, who was born in Cassino, italy, said, “He asked me to get hold of things … like newspaper cuttings and find out the distance from the airport, train stations. He had a friend who actually bombarded Monte Cassino during the war … It is horrible to remember those days. Everything was completely destroyed.”
Co-author Filippo Ulivieri added, “Kubrick wanted to know about the bombing, the destruction of Emilio’s family house, the chocolate he received from US soldiers. He also found an abandoned airport near Cassino and asked Emilio about accommodation, supposedly for cast and crew.”
D'Alessandro said Kubrick also wanted to make a Pinocchio movie, "He wanted to make it in his own way because so many Pinocchios have been made. He wanted to do something really big … He said: ‘It would very nice if I could make children laugh and feel happy by making this Pinocchio.’”

GAME OF THRONES---George RR Martin said Brienne is a descendant of Ser Duncan the Tall.
Also, Kit Harington complained that his good looks have sexism problems, “I like to think of myself as more than a head of hair or a set of looks. It’s demeaning. Yes, in some ways you could argue I’ve been employed for a look I have. But there’s a sexism that happens towards men...There’s definitely a sexism in our industry that happens towards women, and there is towards men as well. At some points during photoshoots when I’m asked to strip down, I felt that.”

GHOSTBUSTERS---Dan Ackroyd defended the all-female reboot movie, "As originator of the original: Saw test screening of new movie. Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it! As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I’m paying to see that and bringing all my friends!"

THE MATRIX---producer Joel Silver commented on the possibility of more sequels, "We haven't talked about it yet. I hope there'll be a time we can do that at some point. That was very seriously designed as three stories and that was it, but we'll see what happens."

X-MEN---director Bryan Singer commented on his future with the X-Men franchise, "...even though I'm very desperate to jump to something completely different, I've spent so many years in this universe and I love this cast and the characters so much, I just don't see myself abandoning them forever. Perhaps as a consultant, as a producer, even as a director, I could see myself returning in the future. Just right now, once this one is done, I'd like to do something really different."

ROOTS---Snoop Dog posted his comments about the History remake, "No disrespect, but I can't watch no motherf**king more black movies where n***as get dogged down. I'm sick of this s**t. How the f**k are they going to put 'Roots' on Memorial Day? They gonna just keep beating that s**t in our heads of how they did us, huh? I don't understand America. They just want to keep showing the abuse that we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago. But, guess what? We taking the same abuse."
He continued, "Think about that part. When you all going to make a motherf**king series about the success black folks is having? The only success we have is 'Roots' and '12 Years a Slave' and s**t like that, huh? F**k y'all. I ain't watching that s**t, and I advise you motherf**kers as real n***a like myself. F**k them television shows. Let's create our own s**t based on today, how we live, and how we inspire people today. Black is what's real. F**k that old s**t."

KUNG FURY---sequel underway to the 2015 Swedish comedy martial arts movie.

TRANSPARENT---Amazon renewed the series for Season 4.

Never thought I would agree with someone named Snoop Dog. But yeah, time to move on. Teach it in schools, never forget and never stop teaching it. But stop the cinematic repression. I've heard a lot of blacks criticize FOX's "Empire" for similar reasons. Glorifying the pimp & gutter, darkest aspects of black lives.

I thought Ron Ely was perfectly cast, but the original movie had some problems. Going with an all-Sousa score was one of them. I remember that using a famous L.A. landmark to represent a supposed N.Y. location was another. Shane Black is doing this new one, so it does have serious potential.

I've never understood the artist depictions of Savage's hairstyle. But perhaps the artist simply meant that Savage should be portrayed by a Samoan wrestler with a blonde afro.

Didn't Spielberg make Kubrick's Pinocchio movie, ultimately filmed as AI?

And a good place to start would be a "Stop Quentin Tarantino from making anymore movies with the N Word in it (like 400 times!)" That would be motherf**king doing something.

I wouldn't go to Snoop Dog to advise me on black people any more than I'd go to Justin Beiber to advise me on white people.

I wouldn't go to either for advice, but I call things as I see them. His comments were right on. Even if they were hypercritical which I guess was the gist of your post.

Didn't Spielberg make Kubrick's Pinocchio movie, ultimately filmed as AI?

From what I've read of this planned Kubrick adaptation, this was apparently supposed to be a version separate from A. I.

Makes me wonder about Kubrick, if you know what I mean. Didn't work out too well for that crazy Italian guy. What's he up to these days?
