It'll be the first time since the festival was launched all those years ago that I'll actually be in Krakow for any of the gigs. A bugger really, because I'm a massive film music fan and, even more frustratingly, I live just a couple of tram stops from the venues!
So, if there's anyone coming, perhaps we can meet up and swap soundtrack stories - and share a few beers in my favourite Cracovian hostelry!
"For those who have not yet visited Krakow for the festival, I can tell you that this is a film music celebration like no other." So says FSM's favourite soundtrack producer, Robert Townson.
For once, Townson and I are on the same page! With two million people expected in Krakow for World Youth Day in July of this year, the city is in a state of complete chaos. The local authorities have invested heavily in urban infrastructure to accommodate the vast hordes of pilgrims and tourists, and the works are WAAY behind schedule. Plagued by heavy road traffic and a barely traversable tram network, Krakow will be no fun for those crossing the city to get to the various film music events scheduled for the rest of this week.
The above problems notwithstanding, it would be grossly unfair to play down the brilliance of the festival itself. Townson has outdone himself in the organization of the events and I can't recommend them highly enough.
