Having just watched a first season episode of the old show last night (well, about half of it before I drifted away), I'll say one thing - I'm sure gonna miss all the stock footage.

Seriously, the opening "gambit" intercut MacGyver in a coffin with a huge amount of footage from Funeral in Berlin, fer crissakes.

This sure as hell doesn't look worse than that.

But it looks so generic.

I'm not defending the new trailer, but nothing is more generic than stock footage, and I've been astonished at how reliant the original show was on it.

As someone who saw very little of MacGyver at the time, the show has not held up very well at all. I've tried the first dozen episodes on Netflix (at the rate of one every few months), and find it to be mostly tedious and 80's generic, except for MacGyver's cute engineering bits. This trailer looks like a competent updating of the engineering gags blended with action-show trends of today - don't see much difference between them, except new CGI vs. old stock footage.

I loathe stock footage, can you tell? wink

So they made McGuyver 20-something and gave him a douchy, sexist partner.

The McGuyver-y stuff looks pretty solid, but the character stuff looks mighty dire.
At least they don't have a goth hacker chick- has that trope finally worn itself out?
