I saw a soundtrack catalogue that listed MAGIC as being expected to be released by Varese Sarabande. It was just speculated news, but I wondered if anyone knew of official plans to release this score. And how do people rate it?
A group of yahoos rate it worth over a hundred bucks right now, for a lousy cdr.....
ybay nay, know what I'm sayin?
Anyway, great score, looking forward to the eventual release, it's a classic, deserves the Varese/Redman treatment, not just the 15mins. on the rare SPFM cd.
The Great Train Robbery needs to come before Magic.
Pretty please.
You realize that it has been released? It was coupled with THE WILD ROVERS on the Memoir label at one time. And it did have a vinyl release as well. But MAGIC has never been on either format.
I do think that TLGTR should also be released by someone who can keep it in the catalog for a longer period of time since it really is such a great score as well.
Classic Goldsmith downtown-Friday-night-at-3am moody blues, Gershwinesque with that up and down movement a la slow section in Rhapsody In Blue, among others, from the great George. Got the closing credits on audiotape-from-TV showing and it says it all.
Bill, Sean is right..There is a small Magic suite on the Goldsmith "Tribute" cd..It's a nice sampling..
Yes, he is correct. I kind of forgot that (even though I own a copy of it). But it is just like you say, a sample. It also was not released to the general public, as was TLGTR.
But, hey, why not put them together on the same CD. They came out about a year apart and are part of that vintage Goldsmith decade.
I finally saw "Magic" on Blu Ray and it is an excellent movie very highly underrated. It should have been up for several awards especially Best Actor and Best Score. It is a fine achievement for a thriller; with reviews that were less than splendid.
1978 was the magic year for Jerry and everybody else. For the last three nights in a row I have listened to this La La version of the soundtrack start to finish. The one extra track does add significantly. Overall it is right there in the pocket with what else Jerry was doing in this insanely productive time frame.
