Due to the antics of my neighbor's tree cutting service, we were without cable all weekend. Thankfully, I wasn't home much but when I was, I popped this dvd in. I had forgotten what a lovely score accompanied the series.

I do wish there was a release of this score available.

ELEANOR AND FRANKLIN was produced by Talent Associates, Ltd., a production company headed by David Susskind. The company and most of its properties (including this one) is now owned by HBO, a division of Time Warner.

What are the chances? Any?

Barry also scored the follow-up with the same director (Daniel Petrie) and stars (Edward Herrmann & Jane Alexander), ELEANOR AND FRANKLIN: THE WHITE HOUSE YEARS. I had the good fortune to be present at the recording sessions with the composer conducting. I wish I could remember something interesting to tell you about Mr. Barry, besides my over-all impression that his music was beautiful and he worked very hard with the hard-working musicians.

FWIW, I can report that up in the booth, where Mr. Petrie was supervising the process, another guest present besides myself was Kathe Green, daughter of John ("Body and Soul"/RAINTREE COUNTY) Green. She was a very talented singer with several albums -- and several hot album covers -- to her credit, not counting the soundtrack LP of OLIVER! It would be several more years before Mr. Green revealed that it was his daughter who had sung Mark Lester's songs in that Oscar-winning picture. Trust me, she was a very attractive young lady who never could have been confused with a boy of any age. Mr. Petrie, who had begun his career as an actor, amused Kathe and the rest of us by pantomiming her restless, sensuous way of sitting in a chair listening to the orchestra.
