DOC SAVAGE---Dwayne Johnson posted that he's involved in a Shane Black (IRON MAN 3) movie, "On the iPad I'm reading an outline for a cool movie I'll make in 2017 (with director Shane Black) and when I get tired and need a lil' pick me up, the shaker cup holds a special shot of energy - Elk piss."
Speculation says the movie is DOC SAVAGE which is based on the 1930s pulp magazine hero. Black said earlier about the Sony Pictures movie, "We’re hoping to make it sometime next year. I made a decision that Dwayne is the guy. It’s on the back burner while he’s busy.” The 1975 movie version starred Ron Ely.
NAPOLEON---producer Jan Harlan, Stanley Kubrick's brother-in-law, said HBO is developing a six-hour miniseries based on Kubrick's unfinished biomovie of Napoleon Bonaparte. Harlan said Cary Fukunaga (TRUE DETECTIVE) is the director and Steven Spielberg is the producer. HBO did not comment on the report.
ALIEN---director Nicolas Winding Refn said ALIEN is a remake of Mario Bava's 1965 horror movie PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES, “When you look at the two movies it’s not just similarities. It’s lifted structure, scenes, characters, dilemmas, themes that are very apparent. I mean this with the highest respect."
He added, “I think it’s wonderful: everyone steals from everyone. And with ALIEN which is another masterpiece, it defined genre movies as having a very high artistic standard.”
Also, Refn is remaking the 1968 Vincent Price witch-hunting movie WITCHFINDER GENERAL which was released in the US as THE CONQUEROR WORM.
NCIS---Michael Weatherly, after his last episode on the series, commented on if he might return as a guest star, "I would absolutely be open to anything and everything, including things that no one's even thought of yet-so I would say the long answer is yes."
Weatherly is starring in the new CBS series BULL which is inspired by Dr. Phil McGraw's early career when he helped defense lawyers screen juries and develop defense strategies. McGraw is the co-writer.
POWERHOUSE---Colin Trevorrow (JURASSIC WORLD) and Steven Spielberg reunite for this family action movie based on Trevorrow's story. Emily Carmichael is the writer/director. No plot details were released.
STRANGER THINGS---new Netflix series starring Winona Ryder as an Indiana woman who's searching for her son after he mysteriously disappeared. Her investigation leads to secret government experiments, supernatural forces and a weird little girl. Matthew Modine also stars.
NETFLIX/MARVEL---sources say Netflix is considering two more Marvel Comics tv series, in addition to THE PUNISHER starring Jon Bernthal. The two will be chosen from Blade, Ghost Rider and Moon Knight. Blade was a Wesley Snipes movie series and a short-lived cable tv series. Ghost Rider was a movie series starring Nicolas Cage.
TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT---Josh Duhamel is returning for the sequel.
THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE---Adam Driver and Michael Palin will star in this long-gestating Terry Gilliam movie.
WILL---new TNT series about the early days of William Shakespeare.

ALIENS to Planet Of The Vampires??? Looks like low budget schlock to me. X-Men uniforms (!) yeah, ALIENS, no.
Well, the other way round, and the original ALIEN film, not the sequel. This is well-established speculation and not news. When ALIEN first came out I noticed the similarities to PLANET OF VAMPIRES (having seen that on TV a million times). IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE is more often touted as the inspiration for ALIEN, mainly for the stowaway monster onboard. PLANET has more detailed plotpoints and imagery in common.
Agree with all that. Planet/Vampire is great kitschy pulp sci-fi - a comic strip brought to life and very successfully. And it looks gorgeous for its low-ish budget. Some of Alien's iconic imagery started there, and also in It The Terror From yada-yada, plus stuff from Corman monster flicks like Beast From Haunted Cave (monster cocooning victims), and Night Of The Blood Beast (aliens gestating in the body of an astronaut) etc.
Dan O'Bannon sure soaked up the schlock culture of his youth!  He put it to good use.... and thank god Corman turned the Alien script down.  We'd be living in a different world otherwise, folks.

He made up for it with "Galaxy Of Terror" and "Forbidden World".
