Here's my analysis of Captain America: Civil War. I think the playing on it is very well done (especially the strings and brass) but overall this score didn't really hit me in the gut. I think I'm getting superhero burnout... I wasn't really all that crazy about the film itself, I mean it just seemed like they could have just had a cell phone conversation and worked everything out without all the punching...

It is a blandly inconsequential and totally forgettable score.

Just curious, what are your favorite superhero scores?

Some of the action cues in the film sound like they could have been written by any of us. Absolutely no voice to it at all. I think Jackman comes off well in interviews (like Zimmer), but these Yes Man scores are the worst.

Not a huge Jackman fan or anything, but in his defense the sequences are pretty damn boring setting-wise. The 3 major action set pieces (tunnel chase, airport tarmac fight, bunker fight) all take place in basically grey concrete spaces. Not exactly Mustafar or whatever that Avatar planet was called.

Hahaha true. It's just that when you finally get to hear parts of the music through the booming and crashing, it's so pedestrian-sounding.

I don't know if he has potential, but his scores are so over the map and lack any musical voice.
I tried listening to Winter Solder on YouTube and just had to turn it off. I saw Civil War and don't remember a single note.

Likewise I saw Big Hero 6 which has an outstanding "flying sequence". This is when a composer can really shine and it was such a disappointment.

Think of all the greats like Williams and ET, Horner and Rocketeer, Ottman and Astroboy. How can a composer miss the mark?

The best thing he's ever done is that interview for the special features of First Class.

Is it just me or does the use of choir by Jackman in the track "Captain America" mirror that of Barry in his 90s scores, think Dances With Wolves.

EDIT: The track I refer to is on the Captain America The Winter Soldier OST
