JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO: THE BIG WOO EDITION
Masters Film Music
Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Music Composed and Conducted by Georges Delerue
PRE-ORDER http://tinyurl.com/hcqjxpq

Masters Film Music returns with “The Big Woo” edition of Georges Delerue’s absolutely magnificent score for Joe Versus The Volcano. Perhaps an unlikely place to find one of Delerue’s greatest scores of all-time, but that’s what Joe is. Marooned Without You is a classic Delerue melody and it is used so wonderfully throughout the film. But there is also some wonderful breezy orchestral jazz, the epic The Storm and The Rescue, beautiful strings and winds. This is truly a Delerue must–have. It has been out of print for many years. We wanted to bring it back, but we had released almost the entire score the first time. There were a few short cues we could add, plus an alternate version of the big The Storm and The Rescue cue. Probably most-importantly is the improvement we have made in the sound from the original CD from 14 years ago. What a joy this album is and so happy to offer it once again.

Laughs erupt when Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan fall in love and fall in lava in "Joe Versus the Volcano", a colorful, stylish laughquake written and directed by Moonstruck Oscar winner John Patrick Shanley.

This first teaming of the peerless stars of Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail follows the follies of a stressed-out guy (Hanks) in a dead-end job who is told he has a terminal "brain cloud". A zany jillionaire (Lloyd Bridges) then makes him an offer that gives him a fleeting taste of the good life. In exchange, he must journey to a Pacific island and leap into a volcano. Is Joe doomed to be the last of the red-hot lovers? Not if the forces of imagination, romantic comedy and the charm of Ryan in three roles as the women in Joe's life have their way.

Having just paid through the nose for a copy of the old release earlier this year, I can't justify buying this again so soon. But for anyone that doesn't have this score, don't let it get away! This is a magnificent work... probably my favorite by Delerue and it's highly, highly recommended.

Haven't seen the film (just added it to my rental list!) nor heard the score but given everyone's praise, I've ordered it!

Very excited to hear it.

Flippin 'eck. I know in the other thread I said I really wish this would get re-released, but I didn't really expect it.

Ordered, and you have my eternal thanks.

Great release, great batch. Many thanks Varese. Now to spend the next couple of weeks staring at the letterbox...

Happy Snoopy Dance time.

Don't understand the logic behind " let's not bother with sound samples"........I for one would like to listen to a bit of what is being offered. Even if for a lot of folks it's a no brainer buy!

Um, there are samples. Just click on tracklist and the track titles (only a few of them have samples though).

Big audio problems on the right channel, in my opinion.
What's happened?

Thanks JTW. When I first went to their website, there weren't any highlighted tracks to listen to..now there are.

Ok, so here we have a rerelease of one of my all time favorite scores, with supposedly better sound, three minutes of new music and an alternate of a nine minute epic cue of wonderfulness. OBVIOUSLY I have to buy it...

...but is it me, or is the sound actually worse? Upon doing a spot check between the samples (256kps is plenty high to not be marred by low bit rate issues), I find they seem to have...how to put it...'muddiness' to them. It's pretty subtle, but it was clear to me after a few seconds. Plus, the volume has been reduced, which is odd, as the original has a nice full sound without any overload.

Maybe it's an issue with the samples (bad settings on the rip) but...

Curious about the post above regarding bad right channel problems. I didn't listen to the samples fully (yet), just auditioned them and looked at a couple in Audacity (where it's VERY clear they majorly reduced the volume)

At first I thought the sound samples were missing, because there is literally no visual difference between the tracks with and without samples, at least on my browser. Varese should fix that, whatever the issue is.

Active links are dark red. Easy to miss next to black type.

Played the sound samples and I didn't pick up on any audio problems. I almost forgot how gorgeous this score was.

This is one of my favorite scores, but I do have the previous release. Now I just have to decide if the new material is worth buying it again.

Doesn't look like it's on here, but I've always wanted that short choral version of the theme as the luggage salesman reveals the elite trunks.

Will buy regardless. Unexpected expansion! Nice.
