HAN SOLO---multiple sources say Alden Ehrenreich (HAIL, CAESAR!) will play young Han Solo in the origin movie. Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Pictures have not confirmed the reports.

THE MUMMY---Universal Pictures released the synopsis for the reboot movie starring Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella.

"Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters."

FEUD---new FX/Ryan Murphy anthology series about famous feuds. Season 1 is about the feud between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis who temporarily put aside their differences to star in WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon star.

IRREDEEMABLE---movie underway based on the superhero comic book. Adam McKay (THE BIGSHOT) is the director.

TWIN PEAKS---Piper Laurie commented on why she's not returning to the sequel series, "I made it very clear to David and the team that I would be delighted to come back. I had a fantastic time on the original and won lots of awards. I'm surprised and I have no idea why I haven't been called back. I did send a note to David that I would be delighted to return, but I think most of the material that I was in on the original didn't really involve the darker aspects of the show, and I can guess maybe that's where David and Mark Frost are going, but I really don't know."
A source for Joan Chen said about her not returning, "totally OK with not being included in the revival...Lynch couldn't find something for her or Piper Laurie that would make sense."

GROUNDED---Anne Hathaway is the star/producer of this movie based on the play she starred in about a conflicted US Air Force pilot who controls drones.

JEKYLL---Lionsgate movie underway based on the miniseries about Dr. Jekyll's descendant who transforms into Mr. Hyde. Ellen DeGeneres is the co-producer.

CATS---Universal Pictures movie underway based on the Broadway musical. Tom Hooper (THE KING'S SPEECH) is the director. Hooper is considering CGI, live action or a combination of the two for the movie.

ESCOBAR---the real life husband-and-wife team of Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz will star in this movie based on the true story of the romance between drug lord Pablo Escobar and tv host Virginia Vallejo.

THE NIGHT STALKER---movie about an attorney who visits serial killer Richard Ramirez, The Night Stalker, in San Quentin prison in order to free her client who was convicted of crimes perhaps committed by Ramirez. Lou Diamond Phillips and Bellamy Young star.

BETTYVILLE---Shirley MacLaine and Matthew Broderick will star in this dramedy tv series about a man who returns to his hometown to care for his aging mother.

WONDER---Julia Roberts and Jacob Tremblay star in this movie based on the novel about a boy with a facial deformity who enters a mainstream school for the first time.

PATRIOTS DAY---Melissa Benoist (SUPERGIRL) has joined the cast of Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman and Kevin Bacon in this movie about the terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon.

Don’t need a dramatization of such a horribly resent event.

USS INDIANAPOLIS: MEN OF COURAGE---trailer released for the World War II movie about the infamous sinking of the cruiser USS Indianapolis. Nicolas Cage stars.

Looks great, but again so horrifying. Would be hard to separate it’s entertainment value from the hell those real men went through.

Good to read that the new MUMMY will be a female this time. Now I think it could be interesting.

The Indianapolis story, as told by Quint, more than did the job. That's not the way to do a trailer - its given away far too much detail. The initial POV from the Zero cockpit as the plane flies into the port bow is very tacky and the CGI is telling. Then there's the moment 'Bruce' pops out of the water, jaws agape.

The fact Indianapolis went down so fast her screws were still turning is terribly sad. I've never been able to forget the finish of Kenneth Poolman's book about HMS Kelly, Mountbatten's command. She was a 'K' class destroyer and was sunk during the evacuation of Crete by German Stuka dive bombers. As Kelly slipped beneath the waves, Mountbatten roused the surviving crew with him in the water to give her a cheer - again terribly, terribly sad.

I wonder if this is what inspired the new look into Midway?

Interested in the story of The Indianapolis, but that does have to be an abyssmal trailer - they must show absolutely every single plot point in the entire movie.

Horrible trailer for that reason.

But isn't the story already well known?

Is this not like making a movie about the Titanic? We all know how it ends.

I remember there was a TV movie about the Indianapolis & the shameful court-martial of the captain for "hazarding his ship by failing to zigzag", it was later overturned. I think it was the navy just trying to cover its arse. It is a great story, but as has been said, I not sure what entertainment value it has.

Aye, it was called Mission of The Shark, with music by Craig Safan. Intrada released the score a few years back.

I think there's merit in the story as you detailed it: you basically outlined the plot to Ridley Scott's White Squall...

Wasn't Catherine blown to bits anyway? (Oh wait, this is Twin Peaks.....death is not necessarily the end!)

Mmmf. Although passable, the awkward staging of his Les Miserables film doesn't convince me that Hooper is ideal for musical adaptations.

To the last two generations, I wouldn't think so. And I think we've already crossed the line into younger movie goers who've never seen "Jaws".

Will there have to be a mutant or meta-human in the movie then?

You lost me.

Doesn't matter - I was trying to be humorous...and clearly failed.

Your comment about a younger generation who have not seen Jaws made me think of a generation of kids who have grown up on Star Wars and Superhero movies.

So I was jokingly suggesting that to appeal to that younger audience, this movie would have to feature some kind of Super powered person...
