All this talk on Meyer's choice for The Undiscovered Country, made me realize we haven't talked about a composer for the new Star Trek TV Show yet.

It'll roll out in January 2017 on the new CBS All Access streaming services.

Star Trek will once again have Meyer in the producers seat with Brian Fuller (Hannibal, American Gods) in the show runners position. Rod Roddenberry will be executive producing. What the story-wise relation will be to the current movie-universe has yet to be undisclosed.

I think it's safe to say that composer Brian Reitzell will have a chance composing the show. I love his eclectic work on Hannibal and enjoy the game score to Red Faction: Armageddon. Hs work might prove an interesting and unique entry in the vast Star Trek musical library.

Any thoughts?

Jones would be great.
I always wanted to hear Joel McNeely score Star Trek.

Bear McCreary, of course.

Ron Jones would be neat.

Mark McKenzie would be fun.

Can we get past the Ron Jones thing?

Given that it's rumored to be an anthology series they could also rotate composers seasonally.

Would love to see Joel McNeely score this as well.

What "Ron Jones thing"? The one where he was great at it? Definitely not.

Edmund Butt or Edmund Choi (anyone named Edmund really).

As I said in an earlier thread, let's go for a Murderer's Row of neglected composers:

Hummie Mann
Mark McKenzie
Richard Band
Cliff Eidelman

And, what the hell, let's throw in David Newman (he's way too talented to just be conducting stuff, you guys!).

We actually did discuss this, briefly…

Obviously, we don't really know much about the show or its tone, but I continue to believe that Brian Tyler is a likely choice, given Alex Kurtzman's involvement (Tyler has been involved in "Scorpion," "Sleepy Hollow," and "Hawaii Five-0," plus the movie "Now You See Me," all Kurtzman productions) and Tyler's previous Trek experience.

Brian Tyler would be a good candidate, IMHO.

In addition to the above quoted corrections and projects, he has scored Star Trek before (a couple of Enteprise episodes, good scores too).

Yes, that's what I meant by "Tyler's previous Trek experience." (Admittedly, it wouldn't have killed me to be more specific.)

In my dream-world I'd love to see Christopher Young or Joseph LoDuca given a shot at this, or at least the theme.

Speaking of the theme, would folk prefer a new iteration of the original Alexander Courage original, or something totally new/fresh? Kind of hard to top both Courage's & Goldsmith's themes, but who knows what the future holds...

I certainly want a new theme.

For composers, I would love to see Ron Jones, Chris Tilton, Cliff Eidelman, and Brian Tyler rotate.
