LA PASSANTE DU SANS-SOUCI • GARDE À VUE
Two Original Motion Picture Soundtracks
Music Composed and Conducted by Georges Delerue

World Premiere CD release.
Remastered edition. More than 50 minutes of music.
8-page CD booklet with French and English liner notes by Sylvain Pfeffer.
Limited Collector’s Edition.

Ref: MBR-091
Release Date: May 17, 2016

In collaboration with EMI Music Publishing, Music Box Records is pleased to present on CD the two soundtracks composed by Georges Delerue for Romy Schneider's last films: Claude Miller's Garde à vue (Under Suspicion, 1981), adapted from the novel by John Wainwright (Brainwash) and Jacques Rouffio 's La Passante du Sans-Souci (The Passerby, 1982), adapted from the 1936 novel by Joseph Kessel.

For La Passante du Sans-Souci, Georges Delerue wrote a main theme on violin with undertones of Klezmer, bringing to the film a dramatic dimension. This theme is reprised as a song in the final credits (Chanson d’exil) and its many variations appear in several cues throughout the score.

For Garde à vue, Georges Delerue wrote a very short effective score for this psychological thriller. The main theme takes the form of a carnival waltz.

This new album devoted to two scores by Georges Delerue allows the listener to hear two sides of his writing: the one dramatic and sentimental, dominated by strings, the other darker and more disquieting. Oscillating between the sadness of adults and the fears of children, this album gives resonance once more to the wide palette of a composer with many facets.

This present edition has been fully remastered from the original master tapes which contain the previously issued LP programs. The package includes an 8-page booklet with liner notes by Sylvain Pfeffer, discussing the films and the scores.

Gardé à Vue was a terrific "cat-and-mouse" psychological thriller , incredible acting by Schneider-Ventura-Serrault, and the music, while spare, was perfectly on the spot..disquieting. An unusual side of Delerue.
The story was so good that it was even (badly) redone in the US, with the unlikely trio Hackmen-Freeman-Bellucci, go figure.
I have never seen "la Passante...", but if i am not mistaken, it was Romy Schneider's last movie before her tragic death.

It was. The film was not as great as Garde à vue, but still it was quite moving, especially the scenes with the boy which were reminiscent of Schneider's own son who had just passed away at 12 in a tragic accident before the shooting of the film. The scenes were extremely hard for her to shoot; the line between acting and real life was quite thin. She commited suicide just after the release of the film.
This CD with these two soundtracks is a must buy simply because they both rank among Delerue's best ones.

I've always loved the Gardé à Vue theme. Especially when it slows to a crawl. Nice'n moody.

Well done : a 2-film feature Delerue CD paying tribute to the late Romy Schneider.

I only know 2 + 1 tracks published in the now deleted 2-CD comppilation Odeon (France). And the Lps are far now, never published on CD. I believe that the music is complete, above all for Grade à vue because there is only few music in the film. For the not French speaking people : "Garde à vue" doesn't have an accent in the E of Garde. But a person is "gardé(e) à vue" (a long police interrogation and examination of a suspect).

So it s very welcome, the 2 scores are touching and deep.

Thanks Music Box !

Since Maleficio didn't react yet, I say in his name : "Ordered. We want more Delerue's. Especially unreleased stuff."
