What's very exciting about Shawshank was the time Mr. Newman spent with the producer's on the project making sure everything was perfect. PLUS, the one and only Drew Struzan not only granted us rights to use his 10th Anniversary Poster as the cover but he oversaw the design of the cover as well.

Like with Braveheart and Dances with Wolves last year, this is easily one of the most prestigious projects La-La Land Records has ever had the opportunity to expand and release.

Looks terrific. Can't wait to hear more music from this score.

Why isn't there a page for the new edition of "Big Trouble" appearing on La La's website?

Answer - Time Zones! I'll let Jimmy here explain, he's obsessed with a place in PST.

It doesn't go on sale until 12 noon Pacific Standard Time. Adjust accordingly to your time zone.

The original soundtrack release is a very nice representation of the score, but it truncates many of the film's cues for listenability's sake, a-la-John-Williams. I expect many of the cues on the LLL release should be expanded versions of those cues, giving the score a lot more opportunity to breathe and build. I'm assuming the cues will be presented chronologically (and hope the songs, which were nice but interrupted the flow of the score, will be isolated at the back of Disc 2).

But there's also some nice thematic material that never made it onto the original release, particularly the foreboding piece that plays before Tommy is shot by the evil guard, which I like to think represents Andy's dashed hopes of ever being freed.

There's also an atmospheric piece that plays when Andy is first escorted (along with the rest of the chain gang) into the prison for the first time that I'm looking forward to hearing.

CRACK IN THE WORLD only gets 1000 units? I'd think that score would be on everybody's list.

Heck, if we sell 1000 units I would be shocked!

Hope this means the monthly flyers are going to be a fixture again!

Not really. I doubt we will have one in June.

There will be one in July but we only have one release day in July -- for comic con. July 20. 4 to 6 new releases.

MV

MV, do you plan a Golden Age CD or two this year? I love GIANT, but you said it had slow sales?

You had said you planned a Max Steiner CD and a couples of others. Is this still the plan?

I'm not telling you what to do, but can you issue a simple (say) 50 minute Steiner CD and maybe 1,000 copies? I think Golden Age westerns sell the best.

Many thanks for past Golden Age CDs, especially SHANE and GUNFIGHT AT THE OK CORRAL! smile

MV, I have always liked Johnny Douglas' score for CRACK IN THE WORLD. It will be an instant purchase , but my heart is always with golden age scores. I know you have been disappointed in the past with sales, but please don't eliminate them entirely. World premiere golden age scores are what interests me most.

I was disappointed to hear MV write that there would be fewer scores released for current/recent films, as I find those titles appeal to me more than they do to a lot of other listeners. Likewise, it is disappointing to hear about low sales figures for the older Golden Age titles, even though there are a few posters on here whose main interest lies in that era.

Obviously the labels have an idea what will be the popular titles, be it particular composers, genres, musical style, nostalgia, etc, and we should be grateful that the labels do take on some "risk" titles in amongst their more "sure fire" sellers, even if that means they are less likely to have such broad appeal.

PFK, there will certainly come no Max Steiner CD by LLL this year. MV had written this more than a month ago:

"Got a Waxman twofer that will be out in 2016. Maybe a North. That's it for now from us regarding some GA titles in 2016."
http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?forumID=1&pageID=63&threadID=67395&archive=0

So maybe a complete SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS (coupled with SUNRISE AT CAMPOBELLO?) which was hinted at last year can be expected about which we have already talked in that thread.

Yes, I remember MV saying that Stefan. I was hoping MV changed his mind about a Max Steiner CD! smile

The Waxman twofer would be an instant buy for me.

Doug from Intrada has often said they will issue a CD (Golden / Silver Age): "For the Glory."

The soundtrack to the greatest film of all time expanded?! Count me in.

I wouldn't say CRACK IN THE WORLD is that good! But I do like the Johnny Douglas score.

You're saying it's not all that it's cracked up to be?! I suppose your unphased by the other score on the cd, too! mad
wink

You crack me up! Hey, I actually didn't realise that Johnny's Crack was sharing a CD with the Ant Hill Mob - I thought they were two separate CDs. Not paying attention to trivial things such as "stuff you can buy". But I'm intrigued enough to look into this further. I have never heard a note of PHASE 4 nor seen the film, but if it's moody electronic doodlings, it sounds right up my street.

In case you didn't know, I've been really intrigued by the film PHASE IV recently, although I've never seen it. But YouTube is your friend, and the clips I saw (such as the "recently-found ending") are amazing. From all acounts it's very flawed, but if it's as brilliantly flawed as.... EXORCIST II :THE HERETIC, then it's a greeeaaat film.

And the Brian Gascoigne score sounds incredible. My kind of weird.
