Will Ferrell playing Ronald Reagan as a President with dementia is funny? Eventually Reagan suffered from Alzheimer disease, as we all know. When did such a debilitating, horrid disease become in any way humorous?

The Reagan movie is yet another attempt to continually paint the Ronald Regan as a man who was just a senile old man suffering from dementia. We still get this parroted by the mdei once in a while, and even his adopted son (the only Leftist family member) tried to drive this point home in his book that was forgotten as quickly as it was announced.

The doctor who was his personal doctor during that time in the adimintration people keep claiming Reagan had dementia/Alzheimers/what ever other word they chose, found no indications of such.

It wasn't until 1994 that it was apparent and he personally announced to the country he was suffering from it.

But it was never about that, the mdeia never cared about him, it was about destroying him and his credibility. They failed, they were proven wrong time and time again about what they claimed would happen if he got in, they became bitter about it. This happens again and again to people political or not political every year, and these people deal with things from fraudulent lawsuits to a media blitz of lies that even causes some to get death threats and have to move away from their homes, and at the end of the day when the media is proven not only wrong, but to even be lying, there's never an apology. Where do these people go to get their lives back? Where do they go to get their reputations back? There's no media blitz to clear them and fix what has happened.

Thankfully, we now have the internet (as it currently is, not until it's regulated into the ground) and hindsight. Not only did we not need Reagan's personal doctor to to see -- since a ton of his speeches are up for viewing now -- that he was okay, you pit that against the current American President and Vice President with gaffs after gaffs after gaffs after gaffs they've been making for almost eight years now, it not only become apparent who has a problem, but that the media doesn't seem to be so worried this time.

The original "Watership Down" film was good -- it doesn't need to be re-made. This is becoming a parody film line: "Sequels, re-makes, and prequels -- oh my!"

Justin, I wish you would remove the political issues because they are not allowed here. I just wanted to point out that mocking, satirizing, or laughing at a person's Alzheimer's disease is disgusting, not funny.

I'm talking about people in politics, not talking about politics.

I had the same response after hearing about this movie yesterday. It could be Reagan or anyone else, the idea is incredibly stupid and offensive. My mother had Alzheimer's and it is, as you said, a horrid disease and it is shocking that anyone would consider it as comedy fodder.

What a tremendously offensive and insensitive idea.

Oh my . . . just follow the yellow brick road . . . and do not feed the rabbits.

Nothing would please me more if Lynch managed to film a few scenes with Coulston before she passed. She's such an iconic figure of the universe (in fact, often the first person people mention when they talk about the series despite her small role). But I doubt it. In all likelihood, we're taling archive footage from the original series or something similar.

You want to shock us, Justin? Quote some examples of these gaffes. (Spelled with an E.) I'll even accept video clips from Fox News. Shock us. I want to worship Saint Ronald too. I want to be worried about the current administration as you are. I just need proof.

Reagan was as shitty a politician as he was an actor - but even he doesn't deserve this kind of crap movie making, let alone by Will "forever fading star" Ferrell.

He wasn't suffering from Alzheimer's during the period this movie is going to be set in, but I remember that he did forget things back then. I think it can be played for laughs and not offend anyone. It depends on how good the script is, but give the record with Will Ferrell movie, don't count on a great script.

I mean, come on... Anyone who once said that ketchup was a vegetable has got to be fodder for a comedy someplace.

I agree with Justin Boggan and others on this. I'm waiting to see if there's any response from any Alzheimer's groups about the movie.

The thing about Will Ferrell for me is that I don't find him to be particularly funny (though I know comedy is a matter of subjective personal taste), but I do think that he could probably do serious roles quite well. He wasn't being comedic at the end of 'The Lego Movie', and I thought that showed a possibility that doesn't seem to have been exploited. So, maybe this Reagan movie should change its script and be serious, instead of a comedy?

Agreed. Making a spoof/fun movie about dementia/alzheimer's is disgusting.

While I do feel Ferrell's schtick has gotten really old, really fast, I did enjoy his performance in Stranger Than Fiction and would prefer to see him tackle more serious/grown-up roles.

We don't know the tone of this movie yet, so my suggestion would be to wait and see. A lot of money is going into this, and a lot of eyes are looking at it. I'd think that while the movie will be comedic, the comedy may well not be at the expense of dementia itself.

It would be tough for Will Ferrell to top Michael Showalter's portrayal of Ronald Reagan in the recent Wet Hot American Summer series.

I'd bet that Coulson recorded new material. While official production only started in September (the month she died), she had known about her cancer for some time. She and Lynch were very close.

Lynch has a habit, especially recently, of shooting things off-set and including them in his projects. Lynch basically spent the years between Mulholland Dr and Inland Empire filming art pieces in his home and yard, one of which (Rabbits) ended up being integrated into Inland Empire.

Yeah, that sounds reasonable, but I'm not getting my hopes up just yet.
