10 Cloverfield Lane (Music from the Motion Picture)
Music by Bear McCreary
SNS4020
RETAIL PRICE: $15.98

Shadows and Sparks presents composer Bear McCreary’s score for 10 Cloverfield Lane -- a masterful assemblage of elements including a 90-piece orchestra, a 45-piece string ensemble, a grouping of 30 celli and 8 bass, and a string quartet. These traditional instruments are combined with two unusual feature instruments, the Yayli tanbur and the Blaster Beam, an experimental instrument built and played by Craig Huxley.

“Bear has written an incredible score for [director] Dan Trachtenberg's 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE,” said producer J.J. Abrams. “It is tense, emotional music that gives the film scope and heart, augments the surprise and horror. It’s an homage to Herrmann, but wholly original at the same time. I'm deeply grateful to Bear for his contribution to this movie.”

A limited amount of 360 units will be signed by composer Bear McCreary and sold exclusively through the La-La Land Records website – www.lalalandrecords.com
Regular, unsigned editions can be purchased through Amazon

Both of these fantastic titles go on sale at 12 pm pst on May 3, 2016 at www.lalalandrecords.com

Big Trouble in Little China: Great score, superb new cover. I'll probably pick this one.

10 Cloverfield Lane: Hated the music in the film. The movie is just OK, but the score almost ruins it completely. Too much music, too loud, too much instruments. Really, this should have had much lesser score (20 or 30 minutos less score) and it should have been scored with a small ensemble, something like the old Twilight Zone episodes. A shame, because Bear McCreary is an awesome composer.

MV or LLL, would it be possible for those of us who have the previous version to either purchase a copy of the booklet or get an electronic version of the liner notes? The notes on the previous version are great, but I sure do love me some Jeff Bond liner notes!

I was thinking the same thing, AD - I'd love to see the new notes, but for me it's not worth buying the new edition. Though I am DELIGHTED this is available again for those who missed it - how I adore the Airport/kidnap scoring!

These clues are really hard. I'm so bad at this. I'd guess Big Trouble in Little China for the first one, but I'm always wrong with these guessing games.

You're about the only person I've seen that didn't like the score to 10 Cloverfield. It's getting massive recognition from lots of other people and is a large bullet point in most reviews of the movie.

Of course. I just plunked down $50 for BTILC a few months back. Learned my lesson...hard.

I paid $40 for Arnold's Godzilla a few months before the three-disc set premiered. It happens to us all. Just learn from this as I did: Have patience. It will be re-released.

I like moments in the score, especially the opening and closing cue, but agree overall. A small chamber-like approach would have been perfect. Alas, this is a Bad Robot production and JJ more or less took the reigns in post, so... You know...

A Herrmannesque chamber score would have been too much to ask of a studio horror film in 2016. Sure you ought to know that by now!

It's not even for sale yet. It can't sell out until it's been put online for order.

I don't know about you, but if I had to choose between something overbearing and something not even effing there (all synth noodling with the occasional jump scare stinger)...hardly a question, in my book. One of the best scores of the year.
