Roberts played "Mother Pig" in THE THREE LITTLE PIGS, a 1985 episode of Shelly Duvall's Showtime series "Faerie Tale Theatre". Howard Storm directed the show, which was scored by Stephen Barber.




In the 1987 buddy cop drama NUMBER ONE WITH A BULLET, Robert Carradine and Billy Dee Williams play the cops--"Berzak" and "Hazeltine," respectively. Doris Roberts plays the mother of Berzak. Jack Smight (NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY) directed this Cannon Films release. Alf Clausen's score has not had a release.

In National Lampoon's CHRISTMAS VACATION, Doris Roberts plays "Frances," the mother of "Ellen Griswold" (Beverly D'Angelo). Jeremiah Chechik directed the popular comedy. Angelo Badalamenti's score has not had a release.

In the 1990 two-part television movie BLIND FAITH, a wealthy businessman (Robert Urich) is accused of murdering his wife (Joanna Kerns) to collect insurance money to pay gambling debts. Although his three sons initially believe his innocence, his actions and court evidence soon begin to prove otherwise. Doris Roberts plays "Tessie McBride," a loving blinded older woman who helps with the boys. Paul Wendkos directed the film. Six minutes of Laurence Rosenthal's score was issued on a 1995 composer promo disc.

In 1992's USED PEOPLE, Roberts had a small role as "Aunt Lonnie." Beeban Kidron directed the comedy-drama. Rachel Portman's score was issued by Big Screen Records.

1996's THE GRASS HARP is a comedy-drama based on a 1951 novel by Truman Capote. It tells the story of "Collin Fenwick" (Edward Furlong), who, after his mother's death, goes to live with his father's cousins, the wealthy, avaricious, and controlling "Verena Talbo" (Sissy Spacek) and her compliant, earthy sister "Dolly" (Piper Laurie). In a minor role, Doris Roberts plays a gossipy member of the community. Walter Matthau also starred, as a judge, and his son Charles Matthau directed the film. Patrick Williams provided the unreleased score.

In 1996, Doris Roberts began a 10-year run playing "Marie Barone," mother of "Raymond Barone" (Ray Romano) on the television series "Everybody Loves Raymond". She and Romano were the only two actors who appeared in every one of the 210 episodes of the series. Roberts won four Emmy Awards as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on the show (2001, 2002, 2003, and 2005). She was also nominated three additional times--in 1999 (losing to Kristen Johnston in "3rd Rock from the Sun"), in 2000 (losing to Megan Mullally in "Will & Grace"), and in 2004 (losing to Cynthia Nixon in "Sex and the City").
