Not the UK release, which is on hold until 2017, but from Kino Studio Classics here in the States. Announced on their Facebook page. No release date or details yet. It better be the full UK version, otherwise I'll wait for the Studio Canal release.

Thanks for the heads up. Saw this in the theater when it came out, and saw some of the actual dinosaur models at the Motion Picture Academy's Harryhausen exhibit in Beverly Hills a few years ago. Raquel wasn't there, sadly...

I saw this at the pictures a lifetime ago, I wanted to like it more than I did. A couple of years later it was re-released on a double-bill with She. I enjoyed watching She again, but found OMY BC a bit of a drag. I'd love a Blu-ray (or even a DVD) of the original 1940 One Million BC, I can still remember seeing that at Saturday Morning Pictures.

Is it the 91 minute U.S. cut release or the 100 minute British version?

We don't know yet, but it better be the 100 minute version or Kino won't sell many. The full, original version has been shown on Turner Classic Movies in HD (I think Hammer restored it a few years ago) and it looked very good, excellent for its age.

With the upgraded detail that same group backing and forwarding that scene in "Basic instinct" can finally get the answer to "Is it fur or her".

Yeah! What happened to ONE MILLION B.C.?! No hussys, just good old fashioned Lon Chaney Jr. And the only drag is when the caveman drags his girlfriend by the hair.

ONE MILLION B.C., with sexy Carole Landis, and even sexier Victor Mature (for some of you guys!), has been available on DVD for years! Some of you guys need to get out more and stop staying in your mancaves and beating your.... sticks.

Has it? I've never noticed. I see there's a Japanese DVD, but there's no reviews I can find, so it could be an expensive waste of money. There were several boots that came & went over the years, & there was a good transfer on youtube a few years back (but the one on there now looks rubbish).

The problem with One Million Years BC (well apart from the man & dinosaur thing) is that it was shot on Tenerife, & it's all desert, it should be lush jungle. I can't see it being anything more than a very guilty pleasure these days.

Yeah, checking my DVD of ONE MILLION BC, I find it's a DVD-R recording off Turner Classic Movies. I make custom covers for such things, using original poster images if I can find them. In my mind after several years, I forget they're not the real deal. TCM had a good transfer, BTW.

As for these two movies being guilty pleasures.... Oh, yeah... very guilty. They are NOT good movies, but I like them.

Yeah, most of my favourite movies will never get into any of those top 100 (or 1000) movie lists smile

Ha! Where's that tear to signify an admission of guilt, Lawgiver? Explaining your mistake is not the same as an apology for referring to us as troglodytes! "Mancave," indeed!

Oh, go beat your stick! And don't refer to me as the Lawgiver. That's sacrilege! (My avatar is Dr. Zaius, not the Lawgiver, and reflects my attitude towards my species -- it's a walking pestilence!)

yeah I know, but you certainly act like you're the Lawgiver. wink
And is that an honorary degree, doc? I dont recall seeing any universities in the POTA jungle.

You're really working to bring out the POTA geek in me, aren't you? (Not a hard thing to do!) Yeah, there was some kind of Academy of Science in the original film (detailed more in the novel).

As for me, I'm a Dr. of Thinkology. Now tell me what movie that from, fellow film buff. (Insert smile here!)

They really mention an academy in the film? The original novel is too different to fall back on.
As for POTA geekdom, I was going to jokingly say "I never met an ape I didnt like...until now" but I was afraid the generic punchline would come across too harshly.

"Thinkology" sounds like something Robert Preston would have said in "The Music Man" but I doubt that's where it's from (plus it was a stage play first). Or Mr. Belvedere.
Okay, I googled and found it. It's obvious....if I'd only used my brain.

You need to stop playing with your knob and watch PLANET OF THE APES again, my friend.

An "Academy" is mentioned at least three times in the film, and a "National Academy" once, during the trial scene, where James Whitmore's orangutan refers to himself as "President of the Academy," and seems to pretty much run the society.

You originally said it was referred to as "Academy of Science." Looking at an online script (assuming it's accurate), they dont mention that it's "of Science," perhaps because Zaius is also Defender of the Faith? It certainly doesnt sound like an institution for learning, considering their job titles. So again, I think the "doctor" degree was honorary.wink
