The back story concerning The Nutcracker is that the ballet was not well received when it premiered. Tchaikovsky decided to salvage what he could of the music and assembled the suite.

Not sure where you're getting your info. Tchaikovsky made the suite well before the ballet premiere.

Back in the day, every time I watched a movie with a Goldsmith score that I loved, without fail the cues I liked would almost never be on the soundtrack. The Russia House was especially no exception. While I agree, the score has a lot of repetition, I do like the whole thing overall (as I do most of Goldsmith's iconic scores) and feel that a missing cue is like a bike without wheels.

But the ONE cue I loved after seeing that movie was not on the soundtrack. It was the short piece that has the main theme with a little acoustic guitar added...the scene was in Connery's Lisbon flat, I think.

Thanks for sharing details on the missing cue you're most looking forward to, vascadius!

Thanks for chiming in RE: The Nutcracker suite, TerraEpon; you saved me the trouble.

Thanks for the kind note and support, Peter; I'm glad now that I started the thread.

And to Last Child: You're correct that we don't yet know *for sure* whether Twilight Time has a music-only source for this score, but it would certainly be a surprise if they didn't (I'd place the odds at less than 1%). So far the most recent Goldsmith score reported lost in complete form is from the mid-80s. Now yes, occasionally, 90s digital recordings made in Hollywood have been lost, but I guess I'm going to assume the best for now considering the vintage.

Well, TT just posted the specs for the new Blu-Ray. They also confirmed that the isolated score is not only complete, but also sounds really good in 3-channel stereo by way of the comments, so there's no need to worry about it being an MFX track.

RoryR, I thought that not only were you fairly uninterested in getting more music from this score, but also that you considered it wrong and against the composer's wishes. Why have you changed your mind now? Did you rewatch the film and find you liked the music more?

And where is the expanded CD release for Blue Lagoon? The Blu-ray with isolated score came out years ago.

Good question! And where is the first time release for Return to the Blue Lagoon, which should be even easier to do as there is no prior album to license?

This Poledouris fan is eagerly awaiting both...

No, you misunderstood. I've always been very much for this release from TT and with an isolated score.

(Though my wallet is not exactly crazy about!)

What I meant is that I'm happy with the current CD of the score, and I don't feel a strong desire for an expanded CD, if only because I'd rather buy some more Blu-rays.

If out of this comes an expanded CD release, Good for you, Yavar! I'll do a happy dance with you.... but I'm not going to be sad if it never happens. I'm happy with what I have of this score on CD. If I discover some cue on this BD not on the current CD, I might change my attitude, but I doubt that's going to happen...

But who knows?

That's weird, those cues are not in chronological order. Is that the order they were recorded in?

what do you mean they are not in chronological order?
They are in Reel order, aren't they?

Nope.

- Full Marks comes about 2/3 through the movie
- The Cemetery should be much earlier, it's when Connery and Brandauer first meet

And lots of the other tracks seem out of order too

I just put those numbers (1), 2) etc.) in front.
Full Marks doesn't have a Reel number so I put it in the end.
The rest as I said are in order of Reel number.

I guess The Cemetery could refer to a brief scene late in the film at a cemetery, but it's only a few seconds. The cemetery scene earlier in the film lasts for a couple of minutes, so I assumed the cue belonged there.

That earlier scene is "The Conversation".

Dirk Wickenden's complete score breakdown lays out 33 separate cues from viewing the film...any idea how they match up against your complete cue list? We're some of them really one combined cue and he didn't realize?

i think I see a couple of source cues in his complete cue list (which wouldn't be in mine).
Also, maybe there's tracked music in the film?
Also, i see in a couple of cues he says "music segues to", so those pairs could be one cue.
