Couldn't find any other thread about the project, but Walt Disney Records will release Thomas Newman's score for upcoming FINDING DORY on June 17th.

I always look forward to Thomas Newman, but I sure wish this film didn't look like such a wan retread of the first film. I choose to believe that the folks at Pixar have something up their sleeves they haven't revealed yet, because the trailers are pretty painful (and I truly hate to say that).

They seem to be able to make fantastic sequels to Toy Story and nothing else. We'll see. My kids are crazy for this one.

Yeah, I'm having similar feelings, even about the music (after being hugely let down by the endless retreads of SPECTRE).

Here's hope: " Some of the characters from “Nemo” return to the new film, but don’t expect the “Dory” score to be a rehash of the 2003 original. [...] “There are a couple of moments [that reprise themes from the first film] but not a lot,” Newman says. “This is way more Dory’s movie.” "

Clearly meant to rehabilitate Andrew Stanton in the eyes of Disney and Hollywood after the colossal failure of John Carter.

Well, that and to make an easy billion dollars.

Here's the behind the scenes and b-roll reel that showed up on YouTube yesterday. There's a bit of footage from the scoring session in the back half, but unfortunately the music clips are limited to choppy 4 second segments! Still...

Having seen the movie ( the movie is really good though, not classic Finding Nemo, , but still really good), i can say that the score works effectively on movie.

But, it's generic Newman that we all come to know. No identity for Dory as the main character, well, i think there is, but it's really far far inferior to Nemo's, and here i came to expect a really nice theme when the opening title showed up, but what i got is generic Newman stringplay. And then there is this family motif in the end, and to make everything so obvious , epic-sad and generic, he used Zimmerian choir, and i think, what......., that's not that creative comeon.

Thematically, this is bland. No "news reel", "field trip", and many themes that made the first one great. I think Newman focused on the action motif here ( relevant to the context ofthe movie), but what was left for the charater are left to be desired.

And dont get me wrong, it works effectively on screen and it really stirs my emotion, but so does Reznor's Social Network.
