With the latest trailer hot off the presses I can't be more excited for this film. Especially to hear Jackman's follow up to my favorite Marvel score so far. Yeah I am pretty much alone praising Winter Soldier's score but I embrace the solitude! Who wants to join me?

I am a big fan of the Winter Soldier score as well. In fact, I just listened to it yesterday. Any word on the soundtrack release for Civil War? Although Intrada released Winter Soldier, Hollywood Records released Ant Man, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

No word on the soundtrack yet... No idea what label has it. As much as I love the soundtrack feel like some major stuff was left off of it, mainly the end title cue. There is a couple minutes of material in the end title that doesn't appear anywhere in the film and wonder why Jackman wrote it at all when they could have just pasted cues together instead. It's a great piece of music that should have been on the soundtrack. That experimental Winter Soldier cue for me was a wasted cue that feels out of place and could have been replaced by so many other great cues.

I love the Winter Soldier score.

Really? That surprises me a little.

I like parts of it. But I liked First Avenger better.

Let me think: Is Jackman the first composer to get to score a Marvel sequel? I mean a sequel that he did the previous film for? He is, isn't he? Silvestri getting The Avengers after Cap 1 and Tyler getting Avengers 2 after Thor 2 and Iron Man 3 are probably the closest runners up.

Right Tallguy... First time a composer can really expand on his own themes in a Marvel sequel. Should be interesting!

What about Elfman's Spider-Man 2? Yes, a troubled post-production in terms of music, but still.....

There are parts of the Winter Soldier score I really like. The biggest goof was leaving the end credits off the soundtrack album. I'm actually interested in hearing what he's going to do with Civil War. I hope it's not an electronic, drone heavy score. I'm super excited for the film. That new trailer is amazing.

I cannot freaking wait for this movie. Rumor has it Ant-Man will become Giant-Man at some point in the film.

Batman V Superman I can skip, but this one I'll be there opening night! Very curious to see how Black Panther will be scored.

I'm just talking about Marvel Studios (aka Marvel Cinematic Universe). Otherwise I think I could count John Ottman for X-2 and Days of Future Past and Age of Apocalypse. Oh, and Ottman did two Fantastic Four films.

Pity Winter Soldier didn't have stronger themes. (IMHO). I can't imagine Jackman will be using any other composer's themes (Ant Man for example). But he could surprise me.

It surprises you that I love it or that anyone does? wink

"Taking a Stand" is among my all-time favorite cues from any composer. I also enjoy the dissonances, the atmospheric cues, and the touch of Americana that are all found in this score.

I find Silvestri's Marvel efforts serviceable within the films but they don't make for a riveting stand-alone listen. In fact, I find both Cap: the First Avenger and his Avengers score outside of a few superb cues (Avengers Theme and A Promise) to be rather disappointing. I guess his music just isn't to my taste but I won't give up in my effort in "getting" Silvestri's music.

That you do. (No idea why, really.)

Taking a Stand is a pretty darn good cue though. (Except when it's in a random mix I have to wait to hear if it's Cap 2 or Pirates of the Caribbean.)

I LOVE The Smithsonian. (The cue. The place is nice too.)

Lots of the underscore in Winter Soldier was pretty useless musically speaking, but the end titles cue (inexplicably left off the CD) was absolutely AWESOME! I like it better than anything in Silvestri's first score, which otherwise is much better and more consistent. I hope Jackman's Civil War score is more thematic throughout than Winter Soldier was.

I loved Jackman's "Winter Soldier" as well. It fit the tone of that film much better than a Silvestri-like score from "First Avenger".

I liked Silvestri's theme from the first film, but most of the rest of his work isn't that memorable.

I'm very much looking forward to "Civil War."

I think we are talking about films that fall within the Marvel Cinematic Universe - Spidey 2 (great film that it was) doesn't fall within the MCU. Likewise the two Tim Story directed Fantatsic 4 films, which were both scored by John Ottman.

Totally agree. Civil War seems like as much of a guaranteed home run as you could hope for.

The media embargo has been lifted. I wonder if any of the (overwhelmingly positive) reviews will mention the music.
