Neil Brand has launched a new YouTube series on film music (he was the presenter for the fab 'Sound of Cinema: the music that made the movies* from a couple of years ago).
"Bells and Whistles is a new YouTube Channel in which Neil Brand explores the intimate relationship between music and the movies.
During March the channel will be free to view, but from the end of the month there will be a subscription fee..." - http://www.neilsbellsandwhistles.com/
This is a great little overview of 'love' treatments in cinema, with a wide perspective that might broaden opinions. If YouTube figures are anything to go by, he should really be getting more subscribers than is evident. What's not to like in a series by a respected and skillful composer himself, describing the art and craft of film-composing throughout the ages with more eloquence and insight than is common in that genre's often shallow commentators? I found this one enlightening, especially re the 'universality' and communication needed to get a message across through music.
I like the guy. Knows his onions. Good communicator. His analysis is great. Anything on vertigo is good. Espec when you see that storyboard sequence to the score - you realise just how good Herrmann's score is.
