Im hope one day original recording of "Vikings" should be released in proper sound.
New recording by Prometheus is spectacular and awesome, but it will be great to have OST in good quality too.
Im also hope other Nascimbene "epics" will be released properly - together with Poledouris and Rozsa, Nascimbene perfectly captured "ancient" atmopshere in scores like "Solomon and Sheba". Great stuff.
Im also hope other Nascimbene "epics" will be released properly
Quartet Records is releasing 3 historical adventure scores (all from 1962) by Nascimbene + one his war film scores ('68) on a single CD:
There are only two historical adventure scores on this CD, but not three. DONNE SENZA PARADISO is the alternate title for LA STORIA DI SAN MICHELE from 1962 (the German title of this German-Italian co-production with O. W. Fischer and Rosanna Schiaffino was AXEL MUNTHE - DER ARZT VON SAN MICHELE) and is a romantic drama about the Swedish physician Axel Munthe based on his memoirs with the title "The Story of San Michele". Nascimbene wrote one of his loveliest romantic scores for this picture and the Ouverture and Finale offer a kind of mini piano concerto. The love theme is almost the same one as the one which appeared in THE VIKINGS. Both COMMANDOS and STORIA DI SAN MICHELE were released on a Cinevox LP in 1968 with a total duration of only about 20 minutes - the same tracks which you can now also find on this new Quartet CD. In former times - during the 80s and 90s - this was one of the rarest and most expensive Cinevox LPs which only few LP collectors had in their possession. In 2017 Cinevox offered digital downloads of almost all their old LPs on the various platforms and also on Youtube. So you can find all the tracks from these two scores here on Youtube, but keep in mind that unfortunately (or funnily) Cinevox mixed up all the tracks of the LP and assigned all the COMMANDO tracks to STORIA DI SAN MICHELE and vice versa.
I LANCIERI NERI (1962) 16. Titoli di testa (2:37) 17. Andrea e Mascia al fiume (2:07) 18. Arrivo dei polacchi (1:57) 19. Fuga di Jassa (2:32) 20. Bruciate le capanne! (1:19) 21. Discorso di Jassa (2:22) 22. Jassa in carcere (2:51) 23. Andrea e Jassa / Fuga dal carcere (2:23) 24. Il cavaliere Andrea / Avanzata dei polacchi (2:56) 25. L’esercito avanza (2:03) 26. Sergio attacca / Pattuglia polacca (1:22) 27. Carica dei ghirghisi (1:39) 28. Cavalleria ghirghisa / Ritirata dei polacchi (3:04) 29. Contrattacco dei ghirghisi / Fuga dei ghirgisi / Sergio corre da Jassa (2:34) 30. Finale (1:46)
One of the tracks from I LANCIERI NERI - I think it was "L´esercito avanza" - was later on used as library track for one of the Valentino Production Music LPs in the US. You can therefore find it with the title "Gateway to Glory" in the bonus section of MMM´s THE BLOB CD: http://www.mmmrecordings.com/The_Blob/the_blob.html

Stefan, is this 1962 bio-pic set during the 1920s?

Stefan, is this 1962 bio-pic set during the 1920s?
DONNE SENZA PARADISO (STORIA DE S. MICHELE) (1962)
It is an autobiographical drama and is therefore set above all at the end of the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century as it deals with various stages in the famous doctor´s life (above all the time when he was a young doctor).
By the way, a few additional tracks from this score which were not on the old Cinevox LP - and will quite obviously also not be on the Quartet CD - can be found on this Sam Fox Nascimbene library LP (Mandolinata, Neapolitan Serenade, Courtship on Capri etc. do all come from STORIA DI SAN MICHELE): https://www.discogs.com/de/Mario-Nascimbene-Untitled/release/2367759
