The book's been mentioned, but that's a pretty good interview you posted/linked. I'd just change the subject line to mention the interview.

Saw Bill Shatner this morning interviewed on the Today Show. He revealed he and Leonard Nimoy became estranged just prior to Nimoy's death. Wonder what this was about?

Shat has no friends.

I think it stems from when Shatner was doing his documentaries on the Enterprise Captains. Nimoy declined any involvement but Shatner used footage of him speaking to Nimoy somewhere (a con perhaps) and Nimoy got pissed because of that.

. . . So nobody read the interview dragon53 linked above? There are also theories about your topic in the comments section below that article . . . food for thought.

As someone that saw them in person together in stage at conference I found it very disappointing that Nimoy stopped talking to him. Shatner can be a blowhard, but it seems pretty harsh stop talking to him after so many years.

Well I don't know if Shatner is anyone's friend. It's always about Shatner. Nimoy may took some of it in stride and it was financially better for them to get along. Also I think things were swept under the rug once Nimoy made sure he got paid the same as Bill. Again friends by extension of their careers. Also it makes me wonder now if Bill was truthful regarding his reason for not attending Nimoy's funeral.

Well I don't know if Shatner is anyone's friend.

I think this final falling out is just a fact of life with geriatric people, and not a reflection on Shatner's worthiness as a friend. Nimoy was in severely declining health and his brain may have been paying a delayed-action price for years of alcoholism, leading to depression and mood issues. It's not uncommon for an elderly person with these health issues to turn bitter toward the end, and it's not their fault. It's a brain thing. For all we know, Nimoy might have stopped talking to a lot of people in his final year.

Also it makes me wonder now if Bill was truthful regarding his reason for not attending Nimoy's funeral.

At the last minute, Nimoy's funeral was moved up a day to thwart over-zealous fans and photographers. Shatner was in Florida fulfilling a commitment.

That's more like it, Zap. I think that's what some of the commenters were getting at, over at the other website, in the feedback they left for the interview mentioned above.

Not that it's my place to get in the way of all this sincere Shatner-bashing. For instance, I still would like to know his exact whereabouts during the Enterprise Space Shuttle rollout ceremony.

Shatner is irresistibly lovable despite his faults.

Recently read his "Shatner Rules", which is lightweight but entertaining. Narcissistic? Yeah, that too.

I think The Shat comes across as a rather nice person in his interview with Larry King:

I agree that he is. I do like him, I can see how another actor might feel a bit bruised by him though. I still think his Star Trek V is arguably the most closely Trek of probably all the movies, flaws and all.

To other point, yeah, it is possible Nimoy became a little isolated and depressed, and it had almost nothing to do with Shatner.

Where do you think the captain would be? Those shuttles don't drive themselves you know.

I can easily accept the fact that Shatner was/is a prick and that Nimoy wasn't as forgiving as his thoughtful offscreen persona would lead me to believe. I can enjoy those fifty-year-old episodes of TOS and the movies they did together and not have to wring my hands over the fact that Nimoy hated Shatner towards the end of his life.

"And you've got the GALL...to make love to that girl!" is enjoyable even knowing the unpleasantness that involved the cast.
