I just saw this film on Netflix last night and was very pleasantly surprised. It is sometimes quite gory and certainly not for everyone, but if, say, you like the Mad Max films, it'll be right up your alley. I was surprised but my wife loved the film too. It has a very retro vibe, with an all synth score. Usually I hate those, but this one was quite nostalgic and genuinely affecting. I highly recommend it. "Le Matos" is credited, but if you look on IMDb you'll see that it was a collaboration between the cinematographer (interesting), Jean-Phillipe Bernier, and Jean-Nicolas Leupi. I haven't heard of either of them before but I'm guessing they're from Quebec as this was a Canada/New Zealand co-production...
The film itself was well shot and honestly very well acted. I was moved and I wasn't expecting to be. Has anyone else seen this yet?
One of my favorite movies from last year... and the score (as well as a few songs) were a big part of that... since I also don't usually like these synthy scores, this one was a rather pleasant surprise as well... The movie is definitely worth watching if anyone is bored to death by all that comic book crap alá Marvel... Comic books play a big part in this one as well... but at least it's an original story and all the retro elements are VERY well done considering micro budget of the whole movie... The only one who gives it's real age away is the main bad guy played by someone very well known, whom I personally haven't seen in anything probably since 1997.

Yeah I did enjoyed this one. The soundtrack is popular on the synthwave/retrowave scene. This has some of the most insane over the top violence I've seen in a movie.
I loved this, film & score, although I have been following the makers for some time. Le Matos is the name of the two-man Canadian band (one of whom is indeed also the cinematographer of Turbo Kid) who have been getting quite a following on the new retro wave/synth scene for a while. Turbo Kid is their first feature, but they also wrote the music for a few short films by the same directors.

Who knows about the sequel to this one but the director's follow-up, Summer of '84, is really quite good. Le Matos returned to score and that is also a great score.
