2 discs of Nascimbene music!

I'm grateful for the multiple labels (Quartet, Kronos, Digitmovies, Beat, etc.) which have been offering Nascimbene's non-Hollywood/non-English soundtracks.

Looks like a promising batch. I'm especially curious about the Marchetti score since I wish to be more familiar with his output (I have only 3 CD's so far including the fantastic L'OCCHIO SELVAGGIO). As for the Piovani CD, I once listened to the previous release and can't remember the music right now but it is no doubt well worth this upgrade. I wish they would reissue FLAVIA, LA MONACA MUSULMANA, a score that features a superb theme sung by Edda.
Regarding Nascimbene's ESTATE VIOLENTA didn't a young Morricone work as a ghost orchestrator on that one?

Someone on IMDB calls Cipriani's score "a funky delight!"
Ok...can't wait for the clips!

Regarding Nascimbene's ESTATE VIOLENTA didn't a young Morricone work as a ghost orchestrator on that one?

I think that you mix up ESTATE VIOLENTA with Nascimbene's MORTE DI UN AMICO from the same year 1959 where Morricone worked as an orchestrator and also as a conductor of the big band. MORTE DI UN AMICO was a jazz score so that Nascimbene therefore probably needed some help from Morricone. ESTATE VIOLENTA on the other hand is a purely symphonic score with a brilliant dramatic main title and which in many other parts has some similarities with Nascimbene's previous A FAREWELL TO ARMS. About 15 minutes have already been available on the CAM CD from 1992 which coupled ESTATE with excerpts from LA RAGAZZA CON LA VALIGIA (also directed by Valerio Zurlini) and MORTE DI UN AMICO. I am anxious to know if there is really sufficient material of ESTATE VIOLENTA to fill one complete CD. Of course, there are also some dance scenes in the film where for example "Temptation" sung by Bing Crosby is heard. I suppose that all these source music dance numbers wil now also be on the CD.
LA PRIMA NOTTE DI QUIETE was available on a CBS LP in 1972 and features great soli by jazz legends Gianni Basso (tenor saxophone) and Maynard Ferguson (trumpet). An interesting and rather nostalgic jazzy score. Rights are owned by Sugarmusic themselves - not to be confused with the CAM catalogue they also own -, so I am a bit doubtful if more than the old album master has been preserved there.

Stefan, thanks for correcting my wrong assumption based on the fact both scores appeared on the same CAM CD, as you mentioned it. I just checked the chimai.com page and there's indeed no credit for the Maestro on ESTATE VIOLENTA. As for MORTE DI UN AMICO, he's given only the conductor credit but he may very well have acted as an orchestrator as well.

Laurent, both Sergio Miceli in his Italian Morricone book (also translated into German in 2000) as well as Anne and Jean Lhassa in their French Morricone biography write that Morricone indeed did arrangements for MORTE DI UN AMICO. The Lhassas even maintain that Morricone wrote one complete theme of the score (see pages 47 and 89 in their book).
That Morricone orchestrated parts of MORTE DI UN AMICO has also been confirmed by Luca Bandirali in his book about Nascimbene from 2004 ("Mario Nascimbene - compositore per il cinema"), although Nascimbene himself in his autobiography from 1992 doesn't mention it at all.

Sorry that's what I meant, best LP unreleased on CD.

The first batch is now detailed on Quartet, I wonder why they didn't announce it here. Anyway the expanded "Il dolce corpo di Deborah" is a better than I expected: now in real stereo.

The samples of Corpo and Pomeriggio sound great!

Can't wait for 22 February to listen to the other Italian CDs' samples and order them!

It is the album master, but I went through the whole film and didn't find any score music that wasn't available on the record. There are a few instrumental and songs in the bar, but they are very likely just licenced pieces, not Nascimbene scores.

I'm interested to check out the Gaigne score. Not much familiar with the other composers.

Pascal Gaigne has certainly been my favourite score composer this last decade. I have six scores by him and whilst not essential buys each and all are highly enjoyable. I can't say that about any other composer (though Maestro Morricone continues to please even if my most recent new score is 2012's The Best Offer).

I don't buy everything my M. Gaigne and I'm not devoted to him 100% but I can recommend him as someone to consider if you're wondering whether to expand your library. His score to Matka Edeniin (A Journey to Eden) is probably my favourite new score of recent years.

Yes a nice score. I also really like his score to Los Manos de Mi Madre and Castillos de Carton and of course Solisterrae.
