here in Italy the campaign is massive..it's on every network..at all hours, and mostly in full length. I usually dislike these advertising deluges, but this one is really nice..photography, music (of course) and direction. The way Sophia says "meraviglioso" at the end is just..meraviglioso.
If a perfume can generate that much money to warrant such an advert ...
As for the Maestro's music ... yes, lovely and fitting but somewhat on auto-pilot for me. I have so many of his soundtracks that I felt I'd heard it before. I know someone will ask me to name the score(s) and I'd struggle to reply but I wouldn't be surprised to find that some/all of the music had earlier use(s).
I had similar thoughts as Mitch, but it's still very nice and beautifully made. I also really liked the Tornatore - Morricone advert from a year or two ago that was set in an orchard if I remember. Was it for D&G as well, can't remember.
It´s definitely new music in the commercial. I do understand that it´s reminiscent of other pieces, but it´s new music and I have to say that I´m rather impressed by this three minutes suite. I suspect that writing music for a short commercial isn´t always the easiest.
A nice piece. The woodwind featured in the first segment of this track are indeed very reminiscent of the End title from THE UNTOUCHABLES, that is probably the similarity that was felt by some people. We are dealing with Morricone's typical way to emphasize a triumphant situation. We can also spot this trademark in the arrangement of the epic The Silver of the mine from NOSTROMO or in the outstanding CANTICO DEL GIUBILEO. In that new composition, I also like very much the string scansions. A pity no label has so far never attempted to gather Morricone's ads - at least the ones written for Tornatore - because we would no doubt end up with a very pleasant CD.
