Love the Mancini, Schifrin, Johnny Williams vibe on this score. Too bad the movie is a misfire.

The first CD out of my recent package from Tadlow. Nic Raine needs to get more composing gigs. I like this score so far.

David Arnold - Godzilla

Truly puzzling (and depressing) that we don't hear Arnold much these days. May I present 'Exhibit A'?

Colour me intrigued. Capsule review please.

Haven't seen the movie yet, so I can only comment how the score works on the CD...

Pretty much a standard horror score, with only a few cues that rise above the rest. I found it to be mostly slow-going suspense music for most of the way, but there are some choral parts that I like quite a bit. There is a theme that recurs in various tracks throughout, which was welcome when it appeared. The opening track ("Opening"), as well as the last few ("The Fight", "Evil Itself", "It's My Fault - End Credits") are easily the best for me. On the other hand, I was not fond of the clicking clock motif found in a couple of tracks ("John's Regression", "In Roy's Bedroom"). The demonic whispering in other tracks, I liked better, this being a horror score and all. I find I really have to be in the proper mood for most horror soundtracks. Unfortunately, I would say it's not quite as successful as his Evil Dead score, though in the same ballpark. Still, if you like horror scores, it's at least worth a listen. I do plan on listening to it again, and could very well like it more, once I've seen the movie. It's limited to 1000, if you want the CD.

Thanks John. Once again ,you've provided a very cogent, informative review. I'm now tempted to purchase the CD myself.
