I'd be interested myself to catch sight of this broadcast as Ms. Simone became a brief topic during my University study in African Disapora contemporary history. I have a copy of the Ebury Press,London autobiography by Nina. Unfortunately I don't have a Netflix arrangement so hopefully some kind soul years ahead will park it on Youtube.
I was surprised (and saddened) to learn that she had an abusive husband, not because I don't realize that these things go on, but because Nina Simone strikes me as someone you would not try to f*ck with.
The whole autobiography catalogues the contradictions that made up Nina Simone. Relating directly to the violence, much of which occurred before the second marriage, Nina writes "the memory of that brutal night (one of the many incidences prior to the marriage) didn't fade, but was opposed by the knowledge of what I would lose if I turned him away. I would have nobody again, no-one to share my success with, no-one to go home to..but my loneliness and insecurity made up my mind for me"
