Many thanks for this announcement Stefan. I have read your notes, most interesting and informative, as always! This great Piccioni release will be a definite purchase for me!

So this is the project Stefan has been working with Saimel on. I recall Stefan mentioning a forthcoming Piccioni on Saimel, but it seemed like it wasn't happening. Pleasant news - an early '60s Piccioni title to help fill in one of the gaps that exist in the Piccioni discography. I myself remember thinking that the Debussy piece would make an ideal companion for this score - and here it is thanks to conductor Franco Ferrara who recorded it at that time. A very good item with which to start 2016. (Stefan, can we expect a '61 Lavagnino in February on Alhambra?)

I myself remember thinking that the Debussy piece would make an ideal companion for this score - and here it is thanks to conductor Franco Ferrara who recorded it at that time. The strange thing was that, although the 10-minute Debussy Rhapsody seems to have been originally recorded at least once as one piece by Franco Ferrara, on the tapes from Sugar it was divided into three sections which were widely spread over all the tapes and in addition without correct labelings. There were even overlappings among those three tracks. So you had to know the Debussy piece very well because otherwise it would not have been possible to put those three parts together again in the way the complete piece was originally recorded.

(Stefan, can we expect a '61 Lavagnino in February on Alhambra?) Yes, you can, but I don't know yet if it will be really February or rather March. We will prepone MACISTE CONTRO IL VAMPIRO (GOLIATH AND THE VAMPIRES) now because the mastering for this score has already been finished. I am just writing the liner notes for this CD.

La viaccia is available now, in many specialized stores around the world. You can find the complete information of this release at: http://www.saimelrecords.com/SALAVIACCIA.HTM Any samples for this? As much as I love Piccioni, I've been burned by a few blind buys.

Thanks, SAE & Saimel, for the samples. To me, La Viaccia seems an ideal companion to the Bell'Antonio album (i.e. Provincial-sounding source cues co-mingling with melancholy orchestral underscore). La Viaccia is on my wish list regardless (sound samples or no sound samples); I'm even considering buying 2 copies. I wonder how little or how much 'The Juggler' appreciates such music now it can be heard?

I'm on the fence about purchasing it. I like the melancholic feel of "Bianca's Confession" but the rest of the samples leave me cold. I'm into Piccioni for his moody romanticism and eccentric orchestrations. I'm not really hearing much of that here, although I concede that there may be a lot more of the melancholic writing in the unheard cues.

I'm not really hearing much of that here, although I concede that there may be a lot more of the melancholic writing in the unheard cues. There is a lot of moody romanticism in the score, but you also have to consider that in contrast to BELL'ANTONIO and SENILITA', much of the music in this movie is filled with short excerpts from the Debussy Rhapsody or with Piccioni's adaptations of parts of this piece. Those adaptations - where the instrumentation has been slightly altered in some parts or a few bars have been added - can be heard for example in the tracks 4,5,7,9,11,18 and 19 on the CD. So it also depends if you like the Debussy Rhapsody for Saxophone and Orchestra or not. And if the more cheerful Piccioni tracks such as the "Valzer di mai" (track 16) are also not quite your cup of tea, then I would say that above all the following tracks in the main program of the CD will appeal to you: 2,3,8,10 and 17. So you have to keep in mind that all in all this is a score with different musical facets.
