Based on what I've seen, it's not going to be pretty.

Seen where?

Perhaps Creature Features thiefs have some crystal ball that told them to charge 50 bucks for shipping of two CDs since soon everybody else will be as well...

Here's the pertinent part for international mail:

First Class Package International Service

The overall price increase for the First Class Package International Service will be 21.6% for 2016.

Priority Mail International

The overall price increase for Priority Mail International will be 10.2% for 2016. Additionally, all PMI Flat Rate Envelopes and Flat Rate Boxes will be moving from their current two-price system–one price for Canada and one price for all other countries–to a revised pricing structure with eight different price groups.

Damn. As a Canadian, I'm already feeling the price squeeze from the terrible Canada-US exchange rate and the huge shipping price hike that happened a couple of years ago.

I pretty much restrict my purchases to the main soundtrack retailers (SAE, Intrada, Moviemusic) that keep their rates as low as they can and allow me to make large orders. The main impact of the existing price increases has been that I no longer make one off purchases from eBay or Amazon.com re-sellers whose rates can be twice as much per CD, as the aforementioned stores.

I'm not blaming anyone, the rates are what they are, but it's quite a shift from a decade ago where shipping rates to Canada were generally 1/3rd of what they are now, or less. I guess it's time to stick to purchasing just the must have releases for me...

Looking on the bright side Chris (this is specifically related to your post), a CD today costs exactly the same as it did 20 years ago!

Yup, and I'm totally grateful for this!

Intrada have changed their shipping rates, which now means a single disc to Europe is $13.50 and a double set is $22. Obviously not their fault, but it's very prohibitive for me to continue making purchases, and will likely mean I will download more where I can as it's a lot cheaper.

I just sent a package of 11 CDs to Australia from the U.S. and it was $33.75 at the new rate.

CDs or titles? I mean how you "calculate", for example, Back to the Future, part II - as 2 CDs or as one title?

As far as I know, a 2 disc release is counted as 2 seperate CDs for shipping rates.

Ford was right, that's not pretty. Will have to look if it won't be cheaper to order at European sites.
Do these rated also apply for La La Land, SAE and other US sites?

Very irritating, although USPS still doesn't gouge as much as Canada Post (which provides poorer service, to boot).

Fortunately I rent a mailbox down in Niagara Falls, NY that I generally visit once a month or so to pick up parcels that would've been prohibitively expensive to ship up to Canada. I guess CDs are now on the list.

At SAE maybe... at Intrada it used to be counted as 1 album... maybe just try to add 6 double discs set to your cart and go through checkout until the postage costs is revealed to see if it will be charged as 6 album of 12 CDs...

I know most people around here looooooooove to have physical copies of everything but with these INSANE shipping rates labels really need to start offering (lossless) digital downloads. Yes/No?

Honestly, it's a wonder that with inflation, etc, costs continue to be so low to ship something across the country or across the world.

The ones I sent were all 1CD titles.

We have to raise our rates, too - can't lose on postage and we're already losing on the cost of the boxes, which no one takes into account. If you want to get in before the rates go up, order now.

This is a pretty good thing for the Indiegogo contributors, that much I'll say smile
