Chaos in the cosmos! Premiere release of exciting Ron Goodwin score for Walt Disney Production time travel space comedy, loosely based on Mark Twain novel A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court, directed by Russ Mayberry, starring Dennis Dugan, Jim Dale, Ron Moody, Kenneth More (as King Arthur). Energetic tale finds NASA scientist inadvertently launched into space, passing through time warp, landing in England's Camelot during the year 508. Romance with maid Alisande, tangles with Mordred, antics with Merlin, heroics with King Arthur lead to battles and intrigue galore! Ron Goodwin scores largely to period adventure, rousing action of story. Lengthy, climactic battle music highlights with abundance of dazzling brass, rhythmic percussion. Fun to know that Goodwin not only visited legendary Camelot characters here but also in Sword Of Lancelot (aka Lancelot And Guinevere) and Sir Gawain And The Green Knight. Courtesy our friends at Disney, entire CD presented in stereo from 1/4" two-track session mixes engineered by Eric Tomlinson at Anvil Studios in March 1979. Film was originally released in UK as The Spaceman And King Arthur. Colorful packaging designed by Joe Sikoryak, informative liner notes by John Takis. Ron Goodwin conducts. Intrada Special Collection CD available while quantities and interest remains!

Not familiar with film or score; but it's such an oddity with a myriad of different genres tied together, I think I'll order it. I do like many of RG's scores.

I have never seen the film, but I remember a snippet of a song played during TV commercials. I don't see that on there, so maybe it was all a terrible dream. Though I can still sing the song...

What a great release! So glad Intrada keeps the Ron Goodwin coming now that FSM is no more. I do kinda wish there was a flip cover with the original British title (other advantage being that it better describes the plot and sounds like less of a comedy title, and might help sales). I'm guessing there may have been input on Disney's end that they only wanted the U.S. version of the title on the packaging, or something like that.

Keep up the great work, Intrada!

Samples sound very charming. Love these "oddball" releases. wink

I fail to see how The Spaceman And King Arthur is any easier to take seriously...

Well, at least then it sounds like a comedy score with sci-fi and fantasy elements! I think "Spaceman" and "King Arthur" in the title each trumps the vague if clever "Unidentified Flying Oddball" with those unfamiliar with the film. And apparently Goodwin played more to the period aspect, which "UFO" doesn't communicate at all. smile

I think both titles are terrible, though I do agree that "Unidentified Flying Oddball" is somewhat more terrible. I really can't imagine the title choice will affect sales, though.

I love Ron Goodwin. Terriffic release. Instantly ordered. Hopefully Intrada will also release some 60s and early 70s Disney stuff this year.

I like the title 'The Spaceman and King Arthur'. But not as much as 'Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter'.

I never heard of nor have I seen this film and don't care about whether the title is bad.
Ron Goodwin however DOES have me interested. I am still very pleased I took a gamble on "Sir Gawain and the green knight" (get it if you don't have it!!), and many other of his scores I like too.
Will definitely be checking this one out.

Well I'm checked. This is Gawain crossed with Candleshoe. I'm in. I can always do with more medieval Ron Goodwin.

In gratitude I doth my visor to thee Intrada.

The cover artwork reminds me of Airplane. Interesting that Disney released this the same year as The Black Hole when they were eager to be taken seriously with film.

I really was not a fan of Gawain but this sounds like it has enough of the Goodwin style of comedy for me to pick up. I really loved Those Magnificent Men and revisit it regularly.

I agree that this would have been a prime candidate for a flipper cover to display both titles. I like the poster for the alternate title.
