The first trailer of The Legend Of Tarzan just appeared online...

According to IMDB the composer is Mario Grigorov. I'm not familiar with his work - do those who are believe he's a good choice?

There's a variety of clips from his various projects here: http://www.mariogrigorov.com/

They all sound quite good, especially Beyond.

I'm very interested in this choice; a young, aspiring talent who could write something stellar for LOT.

Still waiting for someone to release that score.

This trailer looks good, really looking forward to film and score. I'm guessing this score will get released.

FilmMusicReporter.com reported the assignment back in May. The agency he is with, Cool Music, reported he was finished working on it.

Trailer makes movie look more interesting than I'd thought. If this composer wrote the music for it, though, I noted the presence of that "wailing female voice" wending its way through...

Count me in if there's a "wailing woman" involved... smile

It is too bad so much of those images are CG, washed out, grey and fake looking.
Hopefully the score proves better than the movie.

12/10/2015: "Hooray! A new composer! A new sound? YES!"

7/1/2016: "Fuck, sounds like eighth-tier Zimmer AGAIN."

Dreadful. Sounds like a spoof score, poking fun at every cliché in today's film music.

And it looks like they made the film from leftover scraps of footage from the last Planet of the Apes movie.

That last shot was like Iron Man and Thor facing off.

That last shot was like Iron Man and Thor facing off.

Nah! It was straight out of The Incredible Hulk in the climatic fight with Abomination.

This Tarzan film looks shit but I hope the composer is a new, fresh voice though my pessimistic side says he'll be another factory churn out.

Ah, Okay I knew it was one of those super hero movies.

I'm just gonna play GREYSTOKE by John Scott instead.

Glad you said it first.

Who knows, maybe this newbie will surprise us!

I am certainly looking forward to this film. Tarzan of the Apes is one of my top fictional characters that I began reading some 40 years ago.

It seems to me that the film might be following on from the Greystoke Tarzan film. At least I hope so.

My main worry is that Yates doesn't screw with the source material/narrative as he did with the last Harry Potter film.

I can't judge the film from the trailer however, since I can't be sure it contains a sample of clips that, taken out of context, represent the film as a whole.

Same for the music. I just hope the music in the trailer is not representative of the score as a whole.

Haha. Now it surely will: http://filmmusicreporter.com/2016/03/07/hans-zimmer-rupert-gregson-williams-scoring-david-yates-the-legend-of-tarzan/

Anybody surprised?

Those who dismissed Mario Grigorov right off the bat clearly hadn't heard his score for "The Paperboy":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4Rb1yJ1FRI

Given the above, it's anyone's guess what his "Tarzan" score sounded like.

Meanwhile, I remember reading an interview with David Yates where he made it sound like he - like so many other contemporary directors - had no perspective of and is basically insensitive to traditional film music. Based on the two cues above, it sounds to me like he and Mario Grigorov were probably a bad fit.

Studio executive: The film does not work!

Producer: It´s the score. The score´s all wrong!

Studio executive: Damn, call Zimmer! He´s the only one who can give us that bombast we need within the deadline!

Producer: But he´s booked!

Studio executive (on the phone already): Hans? We need you. Now.

Zimmer: Ja, ja, I will do it. I´ll bring along a friend.

Producer: That´s going to be even more expensive...

Studio executive: We´ll have a Zimmer score which is basically written by the guy who did THE MARTIAN. Hah, finally, I will have saved this picture!

Director: I´m... um... I´m already directing FANTASTIC BEASTS so... ah, what the hell.

Yup. I hate this shit. This brand of "Hollywood Movie" is just such a creative and artistic ghetto.
