Magnificent as Marc-Ange Draco in "On Her Majesty's Secret Sevice", though he was dubbed by David De Peyser. R.I.P. Gabrielle Ferzetti.

It is David de Keyser who did the dubbing in OHMSS, plus many other films.

Ferzetti played real-life Roman politician and general Fabius Maximus in 1959's HANNIBAL. Carlo Rustichelli's score was released by Digitmovies in 2008.

And, lest we forget, the star of the landmark Antonioni art film L'Avventura.

In the 1966 epic THE BIBLE, Frezetti played Lot. ToshirĂ´ Mayuzumi's score was most recently released by Legend in 2011.

In 1969's MACHINE GUN McCAIN, Frezetti played mafia head "Don Francesco DeMarco." Ennio Morricone's score was most recently released by GDM this past May.

Yep, and a nice turn as Lazenby's brief father-in-law. Two of my favourites. (Did he ever work with Statham?)

Frezetti had a featured role in 1974's sexually provocative film THE NIGHT PORTER.

And, lest we forget, the star of the landmark Antonioni art film L'Avventura.

This is the film that comes to my mind when I first learnt of Ferzetti's passing.

He was also in Antonioni's 1955 Le amiche.

Gabriele acted in dozens of films for which there have been soundtracks issued from Italy:

  • Nata di marzo (1958), one of a trio of late-'50s Piccioni scores on a Legend CD
  • La lunga notte del '43 (1960) - the newest Rustichelli release from Quartet
  • some LP collectors might remember the 1962 Jessica by Nascimbene on United Artists
  • Imperial Venus (1962), the Lavagnino album from C.A.M., which was expanded on Digitmovies
  • Un tentativo sentimentale (1963) - a Piccioni album on C.A.M.
  • A ciascuno il suo (1967), which is Bacalov's "We Still Kill The Old Way"
  • Escalation & Grazie zia were both 1968 Morricone scores issued on Digitmoves discs
  • both Appassionata & Kidnap were Piccioni scores from 1974 (thanks Quartet & Digitmovies)

... on which cover I only just noticed the illustrated image of Gabriele Ferzetti.
(would this be the only instance of Ferzetti appearing on a soundtrack cover?)

I had this LP zardoz back in the 70s, loved it. I would imagine with all the films he was in, espec italian films, that he made more than one poster and, urgo, more than one soundtrack cover?

No doubt you're right, BillC, but my mind is hard pressed to recall any more.
Many of the films (that Ferzetti was cast in) feature artwork with prominent focus on a leading performer, especially on the females.
Appassionata is all about Ornella Muti in nylons on the front cover. Escalation is all about Claudine Auger in body paint. Jessica is all about Angie Dickinson in short shorts getting on her motorcycle. Nata di Marzo is all photos of Jacqueline Sassard. Imperial Venus is all about Gina LoLo ... etc.

Gabriele did get a photo on the reverse side of The Bible (the U.S. version on 20th Century Fox), though.
And if that's Ferzetti behind Henry Silva in Piccioni's Fatevi Vivi, then he looks more like Fernando Rey!

    Poor Gabriele.

Ah ... GF's image can be seen next to Belinda Lee's on the cover of Quartet's latest Rustichelli: La Lunga Notte del '43.
