I know the only proper 'forest cat' we have in Norway is called a 'gaupe' (The Eurasian lynx) and lives in most parts of the Norwegian inland:

No they are real. It is a domestic cat closely related to the Maine Coon cat. We have one of the latter, and he looks a lot like the pic I posted, but not quite as furry.

No they are real. It is a domestic cat closely related to the Maine Coon cat. We have one of the latter, and he looks a lot like the pic I posted, but not quite as furry.


My wife and I were owners of a Maine Coon cat for ten years though he was already about eight when he found us. A sweet, wonderful breed of cat.

The norwegian forest cat doesn't live in the forest, if anyone believes that. They (skogkatt in norwegian) are domestic.

I knew one that lived in London with one of my brothers-in-law and his partner. It spent much of its time in the trees at the back of their garden but sadly strayed too far (being a naturally adventurous kitty breed) and came to a sticky end under some vehicle's wheels last year.

Boris - for that was his name - was very nice natured and fluffy, though black and white, which was an odd combination, but ultimately too ambitious for his own good.
