And by "bulletproof", I mean those films that cheer you up, no matter how horrible a day you are going through.
The kind that, even though you own them and watch them, you still sit down for them if they're on the TV (if you still have cable, that is).

I'll start off (more will probably occur to me later), and in no particular order:

1) Blazing Saddles
2) Sleeper
3) Raising Arizona
4) Monty Python & The Holy Grail
5) My Man Godfrey
6) Airplane!
7) L.A. Story

Major love for you listing LA Story, a film which I feel is sadly forgotten by most people.

For me (not counting many episodes of Mystery Science Theater or reruns of Looney Toons) it would have to be Duck Soup.

I'm not a real comedy lover, but HOME ALONE always makes me laugh. The placement of the spider with the ensuing scream makes my ribs hurt.

For my husband, it is always Animal House and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

What's Up Doc ?

The 70's throwback screwball comedy with Streisand and O'Neal always makes me laugh out loud, every time. Upgraded to the Blu Ray this year, we watched it again and it is still hilarious, almost every line of dialogue is a winner.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World...it was the first movie I watched after my mother died, and it finally got me to smile and laugh again.

Looking at our dvd and bluray collection, it doesn't appear that we find comedies particularly funny. The only one that springs to mind is South Park The Movie, which as well as being hugely clever is especially vulgar.

This is sort of a little bit off-topic but find I find it still worth mentioning:

Whenever I am feeling angry, pissed off, sad or just feeling down I do have a film score that ALWAYS help me out. Believe it or not but Brad Fiedel`s Terminator 2 is the only score that helps. After listening to that score if I was angry, pissed off, sad or just feeling down I feel cured from my negative mood and it always helps each and every time. No other score have that impact on me like that, strange but true.

Some of my favorites, My Favorite Year, Gung Ho, Night Shift, etc. But I hardly ever revisit them anymore. What gets me out of a funk instead are television comedies. King of Queens and Seinfeld still crack me up.

Start The Revolution Without Me, an old favourite, I still have the DVD in one of those old Warner cardboard cases. And some old stuff, the Hope/Crosby Road To movies & Bob Hope in The Ghost Breakers, & the guilty pleasure comedy...Jack Black in, Year One.

I have a ton of these movies and they don't have to be comedies to pull me out of this f_ck heap that is planet Earth. There are also TV shows and books that can remind me of the good things in life. Many worthy choices have already been mentioned so I'll agree with those and add some others.

Okay, the movies that immediately come to mind:

1. Just about any Woody Allen film (except stuff from the 2000-2007 period, though I liked "Melinda & Melnda"). Annie Hall is a great one but I also love "Deconstructing Harry" and "Manhattan Murder Mystery."

2. Undercover Brother (2002) A fine capsulation of the Blaxploitation era through a contemporary filter.

3. My Fellow Americans (1996) A bi-partisan comedy about two ex-presidents forced to work together.

4. The Thin Man (1934) The first and best of the sleuthing couple series.

I could really go for The Blues Brothers (1980) right about now...haven't watched it in a long time.

Ghostbusters
Naked Gun movies
Police Academy movies
Dumb & Dumber
Freddy got fingered
Robin Hood Men in Tights
Meet the Parents movies
Borat
Team America

And of course the one that has the best feel good message "Groundhog Day".
