I've just finished watching the penultimate episode of the current Season 9 of Doctor Who: Heaven Sent.
... and I'm just AMAZED at what Murray Gold has done this time around. Without giving anything away plot-wise (as many of you won't have seen it yet) it's an almost completely character-driven episode, with minimal action. The score seems to me to channel Wagner, conveying rage, grief, menace and doom.
I'd be interested to hear other's views.

Personally, I enjoyed the episode. And the score was certainly one of the best I've heard in a while from Gold. I usually enjoy his contribution to this show, particularly in Series 5 when he nailed the fairy-tale feel Moffat was aiming for.
But the music this episode was just marvelous, and it deserves a complete release. I hope someone at Silva Screen is listening. A Series 9 album is pretty much guaranteed; I just hope this episode gets the space it deserves.

Heaven Sent was one of the best episodes of Doctor Who full stop. I'm not surprised to see the usual suspects complaining here though.
Murray Gold (and Rachel Talalay, and Peter Capaldi) took the opportunity the episode presented and completely rised to the material. A stupendous piece of work.

I haven't taken note of the music very much this year (nor last year, really), but Gold really did well with this episode.

It was the best Murray has done for ages, though we've had stuff coming up for a while now what with the kid from Game of Thrones gaining a theme. So nice to be back in the good old days. Really looking forward to the next soundtrack album.
Gold seems to have his 'mojo' back!, as the kids say. Wonderful news.
And it was an amazing episode.

I did notice the music, and was impressed: old style symphonic scoring with melody and full composition.
They CAN still do this; it's the studios that won't allow them.
