Intermission - certainly.

I first saw the film at the Elmira Theater n Elmira N.Y. on its reissue in the early sixties.

It still had Intermission, Intermission slug at end of part one and Entracte. Thats on a reissue in a print for a small town.

It was George Stevens who said the intermission, although planned, was not used, as can be read here: http://cinemagumbo.squarespace.com/journal/2012/3/19/george-stevens-on-giant-1956.html. It would be interesting to know when and where the article was first published.

I wonder if it was only when the film was reissued that the intermission was added?

I saw an 80's reissue of GIANT and it did contain an intermission break (and card), but it was obvious it was inserted for the re-release, there was no intermission music.
