I don't know Zimmers music to well.. his scores. Black Rain, DMD, Back Draft, DOT, are all good musical scores, i could listen to them again, & not get bored with them.

His later scores are also pretty good, Broken Arrow, Black Hawk Down, Gladiator + a few others. Zimmer is a good composer.

He's An Oscar winner, Golden globe winner, Academy awards winner, All these snide remarks for Zimmer + hate is Weird.

Hi First Breath,my friend
Your English is that bad that you didn't understood what I meant?
Hansi Zimmer the film 'composer' is what Donald Trump is to the US presidency- a complete disgrace!

Sleep well, my Norwegian friend

So you have heard all his 180 scores?

And they are all in insult to film music?

When he first came onto the scene, I found his music to be diverse and interesting.
As he became a McDonald's-like juggernaut of a music factory, I not only DON'T KNOW what Hans Zimmer does, but I now question WHAT HE DID back then.
Everything became a little too murky for me.
Why does LOTS of The Lion King (his Oscar Winner) sound more like Mark Mancina? I could apply this thought to countless others.
That whole POTC/Klaus Badelt mess shrouds things further.
Yes, he gives credit, but the line has blurred so much now, I honestly don't think we'll ever know what a true, stand-alone Hans Zimmer composition is (or was).
He's obviously a great manager/producer, but I'm not quite sure how good a film composer he is.

Ask me what I think of Stanley Myers, Shirley Walker, Mark Mancina, John Powell... wink

What do you think of Stanley Myers' music? Have you heard THE RAGING MOON?

Zimmer was a nice addition to film music. He had a unique sound, which was fresh and interesting, yet grounded in traditional orchestrations. I've long since lost interest in his minimalist/sound design approach. What I do resent is how this sound has come to dominate Hollywood, forcing all other composers down the same repetitive path.

Well the bulk of it lately is composed by his army of ghostwriters so frankly I don't know what to think.

That's pretty much my view too. I don't at all hate Zimmer, every now and again he does write something I like, but I do dislike his huge influence which is limiting Hollywood movie music, forcing much of it to conform to the same style.

When Zimmer burst on the film music scene back in the late 80s, he had an understanding of rock music that no other film composer had. His fresh rock styled orchestral approach was very influencial. His formal orchestral training with Stanley Myers really shows because Zimmer has a definite command of both rock & classical idioms.

RAIN MAN
BLACK RAIN
PACIFIC HEIGHTS
CRIMSON TIDE
GLADIATOR
THE PEACEAKER
DROP ZONE
POINT OF NO RETURN

Are some of my all-time favorites from him.

He still has an edge above most other composers when it comes to the generic wall of action sound approach that has sadly become standard in films today.
