Hmmm, looks more like a flying sex toy. Docking would be a sight. I loved all the design work for SPACE: 1999 — the ships, the uniforms, Moonbase Alpha — and the "haunted castle in space" aspect of the scripts. But the show was not especially credible. For example, if they had fusion rockets like the Eagles that could make "direct ascent" to the Moon in a matter of hours, they'd be traveling all over the Solar system, and perhaps to the nearest stars. (Granted, they did have episodes featuring such ships, like "Voyager's Return", "Death's Other Dominion" and "Dragon's Domain" but they didn't mesh into a single history.) So while the Eagles had the pretense of looking real, their capabilities did not dovetail with the writing. However, I would love to see a credible "near future" space exploration series—perhaps along the lines of AMAZING STORIES where the cast and situations are not necessarily the same from week-to-week. Since most series these days are as little as a dozen episodes per season, and with the production tools now at hand, such a show could be made economically. The show might be like some of the golden age sci-fi: educational passages mixed in with the drama. Private enterprise is the only way space exploration will work. So I love hearing about efforts like Blue Origin and SpaceX.
