MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23

GAME OF THRONES---HBO released a teaser poster for Season 6 showing Jon Snow.

LOST IN SPACE---Netflix won the bidding war for the remake of the sci fi series that ran on CBS from 1965-1968 that starred Guy Williams, June Lockhart, Bill Mumy and Jonathan Harris. The 1998 movie version starred William Hurt, Gary Oldman, Mimi Rogers and Matt LeBlanc.

THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN---Universal Pictures is seeking Angelina Jolie to star in its remake of the 1935 horror movie that starred Boris Karloff and Elsa Lanchester.

MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS---Kenneth Branagh (THOR) will direct and star in the 20th Century Fox movie based on the Agatha Christie novel. Branagh will play Hercule Poirot. The 1974 Sidney Lumet movie starred Albert Finney, Sean Connery, Ingrid Bergman, Lauren Bacall, Jacqueline Bisset and Vanessa Redgrave.

JUSTICE LEAGUE MORTAL---photo released of Megan Gale (MAD MAX: FURY ROAD) as Wonder Woman from the cancelled George Miller movie that would have also starred Armie Hammer as Batman.

RIDDICK---Vin Diesel announced the next sequel FURIA and a tv series titled MERC CITY are underway, “Last night our company had a party to launch our TV division. MERC CITY is a show that will follow the Mercs and Bounty Hunters of the Riddick Universe. Next Month, DT [David Twohy] begins writing the next Chapter in the Chronicles of Riddick… FURIA.”

THE HUNGER GAMES---director Francis Lawrence commented on a possible prequel, "I'm sure if Suzanne were to get inspired and decide there's another story that's important for her to tell that exists within the world of Panem and whether about the Dark Days, another character, or another set of Games, whatever that could be, I'm sure it would be great. And I'd loved to be involved, absolutely."
He said about Katniss in the prequel, "I just think with the end of this story, we've reached the end of Katniss' story. I think that Suzanne [Collins] created such an iconic character, and I think she's the main reason why everyone comes back to these stories. Now, that's come to an end."

GHOSTBUSTERS---Sony Pictures head Tom Rothman commented on fan criticism for the all-female remake movie, "Everybody says we're making the female Ghostbusters, but I say, 'No, we're making the funny Ghostbusters.' Yes, it happens to be four women. It's original. You get pissing and moaning on the Internet - sexist comments - but, you know, f--- 'em."

Netflix, see that robot in that picture? That's your robot. Jobs done. Doesn't have to be redesigned. USE IT!

I thought the robot in the movie a few years back looked cool enough for a redesign. Too bad it — the movie, not the robot — blew green asteroid chunks.

Seems to me that Universal Pictures should do a decent remake of FRANKENSTEIN (ala their impressive THE WOLF MAN from 2010) before leaping into THE BRIDE...

So, Sony Pictures head Tim Rothman is a snot-nosed twerp? Or just TALKS like one?
Tsk tsk.

Point is, he doesn't need a redesign. B9 is a functional believable robot. Note 38 years later and R2 and 3PO look exactly the same.

Well, it could you a bit of an update.

Also, the design in the 1998 wasn't all that bad either.

Now the only MAJOR thing for me is KEEP THE BASIC SAUCER design, it's still cool looking 50 years later.

Also, if you can perhaps use a big of the John Williams theme(s) that would be nice too.

To say the Lost In Space movie wasn't enjoyable is nonsense.
There was nothing wrong with the movie that wasn't also wrong with the TV show.

I like the film and found it a very sincere and honest production. The story could have been better but except for Penny's voice, I still like it. The effects are still top notch and the documentary about them also showed the VFX supervisor being also very honest about the tricks they used because no other option was feasible. The robot is still impressive. Just, once again, the story is bland but, once again, the rest is top grade and did make the original cast proud.

Agreed. For years I've felt that those of us who actually enjoyed the movie were a minority to hang our heads in shame, but then after looking at many of the original episodes again, it wasn't really very good ( yeah I know the first season had a very different tone ) .

And Matt LeBlanc was damn good, holding his own with Hurt & Oldman. I enjoyed the movie, visuals, Broughton's excellent score and all !

Jolie in a remake of BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN? I don't think it'll happen, nor do I think it should happen. In fact, Universal should respect the movie by not ever remaking it. Only a Philistine -- unfortunately most of the suits at the studios -- would remake BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. Look at how THE BRIDE turned out. Didn't anyone learn any thing from that turkey?

Regardless, they're still at it. I don't have it in front of me at the moment, but an article in the recent issue of one of the trades -- Variety or Hollywood Reporter -- was all about the Universal folks who are trying to plan more re-boots of their classic monsters for the Millennials...

Sounds like the plot to a terrible AIP monster movie from the fifties.

And the Jupiter 2 engine power noise - the greatest sound effect in human history in my humble opinion.

I have always really liked Stephen Hopkins' Lost in Space film. I've never seen one episode of the TV show so I have no comparison, but I thought the movie was a fun diversion and an enjoyable entertainment. The only two significant weaknesses were the horrible actor little boy (young Will Robinson) and the final action climax/sci-fi storyline between the grown-up Will (now Jared Harris) and William Hurt. That ending totally didn't work for me and was a mess, but the rest of the movie was a lot of fun.

Lost In Space movie- Special effects and music were spectacular. The rest was cringe worthy, especially the cast. The original television pilot was so much better in casting, story and design. But to each their own.
