Anyone out there interested in scores to IRONSIDE (Quincy Jones), DANIEL BOONE (Gerald Fried, Alexander Courage), or THE WILD WILD WEST (Richard Markowitz). Some great music here!

Also, any word on a CHARLEY VARRICK release?
My previous response was frivolous. Here's the truth -
Re- DANIEL BOONE - Never heard of the series, but I "generally" like the stuff that Fried and Courage wrote, but it very much depends on the genre and the time period in which the scores were written... Somehow the title "Daniel Boone" reminds me of something really old, with old-fashioned music a bit like "The Lone Ranger." I'd approach that one with caution.
Re - THE WILD WILD WEST - Never saw the show. I've heard some Markowitz in other series. Might be of interest. Tell me more.
Re- IRONSIDE - I love the Main Theme by Jones, but I only have distant memories of watching the show as a child. My impression is that it was good quality, but somewhat static and "wheelchair-bound." Not much scope for musical set-pieces... but I do see that Oliver Nelson was responsible for the bulk of the scoring, and he was always great. Still, I wouldn't go into this one either blind.

I viewed several segments of Daniel Boone not long ago, Graham. Never saw the show before 2015, but what little I did see impressed me (music-wise).
Only the theme song played during beginning and end credits is of the 'old-fashioned' balled ilk. The incidental music underscoring the stories was quite involving dramatically (based upon viewing about 5 or 6 episodes). Send that caution to the winds, I'd say, if ever the music from this Fox series materialized onto discs.

Anyone mentions a Wild Wild West TOS, count me in. I've been pushing it on this forum for a while. There's a rumor of this may actually happen but cant confirm.

I don't see Gerald Fried listed for "Daniel Boone" at the imdb. Sandy Courage yes, and lots of fine folk such as Irving Gertz, Fred Steiner and Leith Stevens. Maybe just an oversight. I'm going to do something I never do. Try to continue working (I AM working right now y'know) with YouTube on. If I can't find an episode of "Dan Boone" to distract me, I'll see if I can find an old Irwin Allen series.
Update - Always eager for new experiences, I "tried to work with the telly on in the background." Took me an hour to do what I normally do in five minutes. Why can't I mult-task?
It wasn't really the telly - it was YouTube, and it was the first episode of "Daniel Boone". Apart from the typical renditions of the songs, a lot of the score seemed pretty good. The End Credits said "Music composed and conducted by Lionel Newman." Difficult to say if it was all (or even any) Newman. But for the first episode of Season 1 I imagined it would have an original score as opposed to music drawn from the stock library. So maybe it was Newman after all.
I was thinking of Fred Steiner when I wrote Gerald Fried scored DANIEL BOONE.
Re: the comments about DANIEL BOONE being old-fashioned. Not a bit of it. There's great action music, memorable romantic tunes, and a variety of other great soundtrack music. Watch the first season two-part episode, "Cain's Birthday," and the third season two-part episode, "The High Cumberland" for good examples of the series at its best. Also, "Mama Cooper," from Season 6. http://www.lite-report.com/Daniel_Boone/Daniel.Boone.Complete.Collection.TV.Show.Episodes.html
Re: IRONSIDE. Quincy Jones' brilliant theme and score can be heard in the TV film IRONSIDE , while a good example of Oliver Nelson's scoring can be seen in the episode "Split Second to an Epitaph." http://www.hulu.com/watch/44820. More cool music: http://www.hulu.com/watch/12799
