Acceptable: Retro and contemporary electronica, Pink Floyd and a handful of other '70s prog rock bands, one-hit wonder pop groups from 'the '80s like A-Ha, industrial Eurotechnometalpop stuff like Rammstein, and, once in a while, after a few hundred beers, old school American hip hop

Unacceptable: Classical, jazz and anything else not listed above

Here's a thread I'm happy to contribute, even with the hint of sarcasm. However, I take exception to this comment: one-hit wonder pop groups from 'the '80s like A-Ha,

"In 2015 it was announced that A-ha would re-unite for two years. Their tenth studio album, Cast in Steel, was released on 4 September 2015. A world tour in support of the album is planned. The band has sold more than 80 million records worldwide. In less than a year, during 2010, the band earned an estimated 500 million Norwegian Kroner from concert tickets, merchandise and the release of a greatest hits album, making them one of the 40–50 largest grossing bands in the world".

There is a music industry beyond the United States of Amnesia, you know.

Oh, you A-Ha fans are too sensitive. I just threw that in there to tease Thor.

Aye, it's become something of a running joke...

Ha, ha, great topic!

Although it's perhaps more fruitful to expand this into everything that is not jazz or classical, not only my whimsical taste. Acid electro jazz excepted, if you must.

Hope you won't mind me moving my "Now Playing" selections over here.

The Smiths- Louder Than Bombs

Been listening to this album a lot recently. It's the U.S. take on the earlier UK compilation, The World Won't Listen albeit with extra tracks.

No, as long as it's not jazz or classical, it's fine! wink

I have a friend who is a big Smiths fan, and who continually tried to convert me 20 years ago. Was never that much into them myself, but then again, I was very "anti" the whole indiepop scene in the 90s. Would probably have liked them a bit better if I'd come across them today.

Been on "mushroom binge" lately. Love them wacko covers too.

That's my point. I need a reprieve from all that "Longhair" music! smile

I had a friend who was the same way, only it was thirty years ago and I was just a casual Smiths listener then. I was "too serious" to appreciate the humor amid the sorrow in Morrissey's lyrics though I certainly appreciate it now. The '80s Indie scene was a lot more of a rarity--at least where I lived and went to school--the '90s stuff isn't "my" music, even if I do enjoy some of it somewhat. Actually, I spent the majority of the '90s listening to...wait for it...Jazz!
